The School of Visual Arts Instructor will contribute to the vision, mission, and values of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation by instructing various visual arts classes for the overall enrichment and well-being of all class participants. The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:

  1. Instruct a variety of visual art classes, following the class descriptions. Classes may include Summer Camp, Open Studio, Community Classes, School Age, Early Learning Center, Senior Living Facilities, and more. 
  2. This position specifically will provide support throughout Summer Camp by preparing and co-instructing weekly art classes, lead infant classes in the Early Learning Center with weekly art enrichment activities, and support community creativity by supervising Open Studio time.
  3. Create and maintain age appropriate lesson plans, ensuring that scheduled class time consists of set-up, instruction, student work time, and clean-up.
  4. Communicate concrete and abstract concepts as part of class instruction, identifying and cultivating creativity and skill among students.
  5. Maintain a high level of applicable professional knowledge, including knowledge of art history, different art genres, and current art instruction trends in order to teach a range of art styles.
  6. Practice good time management skills such as arriving with enough time to prepare your workspace, and beginning and ending classes on time.
  7. Assist in inventory and ordering of supplies
  8. Follow class registration and attendance record procedures through Club Automation software and Google Suite.
  9. Maintain communication with both the department Manager and Director, as well as the  Facility & Maintenance Team, ensuring that workspace is kept clean and in proper working order.
  10. Display at all times a professional and enthusiastic attitude while developing meaningful relationships with students, members, guests, and colleagues.
  11. Communicate and cooperate with colleagues and various departments as part of the JCC team, including attending staff meetings as needed.
  12. Adhere to all JCC and departmental policies
  13. Complete all additional duties as assigned by supervisor


Requirements

The ideal candidate has two or more years of teaching experience, and feels comfortable working with a large range of demographics. Self motivation, a high level of organization, and a love for art education is needed. The right candidate should possess a strong understanding of various art mediums, the talent to create meaningful art, and the capability to teach art skills to others. Workload expected: Monday afternoons, Tuesday morning and afternoon, and Thursday evenings, with additional outreach or community programs as needed. This position will start mid-May and will run through mid-August. There is the potential to stay on in a permanent part-time position after the summer session. Must meet comprehensive background requirements for licensed child care programs in the state of Ohio. A physical and drug test will be required.Â
