Position Description
Definition:
Deliver classroom instruction to college students through diverse methods, including lectures, demonstrations, laboratory/studio exercises, handouts, interactive Q&A sessions, and assessments. The teaching load encompasses a variety of 2-D Media Art courses, such as Drawing, 2-D Design, Painting, and Art Appreciation, aligned with the AFA-Visual Arts program.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
โ€ข Receives direct supervision and/or technical direction from the program director and department chair
โ€ข Exercises no supervision
Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Deliver classroom and studio/laboratory instruction to students.
โ€ข Design lesson plans and organize classroom activities effectively.
โ€ข Create and prepare supplementary materials to enhance textbook lessons.
โ€ข Develop and administer assessments to evaluate student performance.
โ€ข Maintain accurate grade records for individual student scores.
โ€ข Deliver classroom demonstrations focusing on materials, techniques, and the essential aspects of the 2-D media discipline.
โ€ข Design studio/laboratory assignments that provide hands-on experience where appropriate.
โ€ข Maintain precise records of student attendance and performance.
โ€ข Manage and monitor material and supply inventories for the course(s) taught.
โ€ข Ensure all required paperwork is completed promptly and accurately, including (but not limited to): class rosters, registration forms, pay sheets, attendance forms, and grade rosters.
Other Important Functions:
Maintain punctuality and professionalism at all times.
โ€ข Foster and support a friendly and collaborative working environment.
โ€ข Work in coordination with other faculty members to manage shared facility areas and supplies effectively. โ€ข Evaluate the relevancy and impact of various lessons, suggesting improvements where necessary.
โ€ข Supervise and engage in field studies and assignments; accompany students on trips to provide guidance and instruction as needed.
โ€ข Carry out other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
SAFETY DUTIES:
โ€ข Remain alert to safety aspects of studio material and equipment
โ€ข Provide assistance to students in handling materials and equipment during courses to ensure safe practices.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
  • Classroom and laboratory instructional techniques and procedures
  • Principles and procedures of academic and instructional techniques and procedures
  • Current trends, research and development in the area of assignment
  • Principles and techniques involved in test development and administration

Ability To:
  • Interpret and apply College goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully, both orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
    • Making observations
    • Reading and writing
    • Communicating with others
    • Operating assigned equipment
    • Handling varied tasks simultaneously
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which include the following:

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Minimum Education/Training:
  • A Master's degree in Art or a Master's degree and at least 18 graduate semester hours in Art from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Specialization in 2-D Media Art

Minimum Experience:
  • Specialization in 2-D Media Art

Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills:
  • Prior experience in teaching 2-D Art course at post-secondary level is preferred
