Job description

This position is open to Federal Work-Study and non-FWS graduate students.

The Office of Undergraduate Admission (OUA) seeks to hire a Graduate Intern (GI) to assist with the strategic development, management, and assessment of the on Grounds visit experience for prospective and admitted students and their families. The OUA welcomes over 60,000 visitors annually for daily tours/information sessions and hosts 6 open houses throughout the year. The GI will work closely with OUA staff, OUA student interns, UVA faculty and staff, and alumni to ensure our visitors experience a welcoming, informative, and fun visit to UVA as they consider their college options.

The field of undergraduate admission offers a window into the wider, dynamic world of modern higher education administration. GIs should expect and experience that helps them cultivate leadership, organizational, and public speaking skills. GIs will advise prospective students and applicants on the admission process, work closely with High School Counselors and Community Based Organization leaders to create visit opportunities for students from underserved backgrounds, and coordinate large scale admitted student programs.

With oversight from a professional OUA team member, GAs will:

  • Manage OUA's student intern team
  • Oversee daily tour/information session visits
  • Plan and execute open house programs
  • Coordinate group tours
  • Support OUA Dean of the Day

Hours of work would generally be between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday in addition to approximately 3 Saturdays per semester.

The successful GI candidate will be self-motivated and enthusiastic about supporting recruitment efforts and will enjoy working as part of a team. The individual will be well organized and open to constructive feedback.
