Position Description:
The proposed duties of this position will include a variety of field and office work opportunities to provide the intern with a diverse breadth of experience that could be applied to future conservation-related positions. The intern will focus primarily on delivering K-12 education programs, assisting with recreational education related to fishing and hunting, and helping to coordinate community outreach and volunteer activities.

Public Land Corps Non-Competitive Hiring Authority (PLC)
The Public Land Corps Non-Competitive Hiring Authority is a special hiring authority available to qualifying interns. The intern must be between the ages of 18 and 30 years old, inclusive, or a veteran up to age 35 and complete 640 hours of work on an appropriate conservation project to be eligible for this hiring authority. Upon successful completion of the PLC project(s), the intern is eligible for two years to be hired non-competitively into a federal seasonal, term, or permanent position. The applicant must apply to a PLC-eligible position advertised on USAJobs.gov and selected off a non-competitive certificate of eligibility. For more information, see DOI Personnel Bulletins 11-02, 12-13, and 17-03.

- Supporting park ranger staff in the implementation of Great Lakes environmental education programs for K-12 visitors and the general public.
- Assisting with fishing and hunting education, including instructing others in how to fish and/or hunt and how to identify appropriate species.
- Helping organize and facilitate community outreach events and volunteer opportunities.
- Participating in visitor engagement and interpretation, providing information about refuge resources and conservation efforts.
- Assisting with data entry and maintenance of records related to projects and visitor interactions.
- Work Products: The final work products will include:
- Data files are collected and enteredinput into our tracking systems to accurately track the number of students reached.
Qualifications:
- Major field of study relevant to the position, including arts, history, or education
- Completion of two or more years of college-level course work.
- Knowledge of or interest in conservation, wildlife management, or related fields.
- Knowledge of or interest in fishing and/or hunting.
- Ability to work with people of all ages.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Good attitude and willingness to learn.
