To thrive as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology, you need a doctoral degree in biology or a closely related field, along with expertise in teaching and research. Familiarity with laboratory management systems, learning management platforms (like Canvas or Blackboard), and current biological research techniques is essential. These skills are crucial for delivering effective instruction, advancing research goals, and supporting departmental needs within a limited-term appointment.

What are some common challenges faced by visiting assistant professors in biology, and how can they be managed?

Visiting Assistant Professors in Biology often juggle teaching multiple courses, adapting quickly to new institutional cultures, and balancing research with a heavy teaching load. Networking within the department and participating in faculty meetings also support professional growth during the limited contract period.
