Role Description

The CEO & President of Visit Mountaineer Country CVB provides strategic leadership and overall management of the organization, ensuring alignment with its mission to expand tourism and economic impact in the region. This full-time, on-site role in Morgantown, WV oversees marketing, sales, visitor services, and partnership development, while guiding long-term planning and organizational growth. Day-to-day responsibilities include leading staff, managing budgets, cultivating relationships with local government, tourism partners, and stakeholders, and representing the CVB at public events and industry meetings. The CEO & President sets performance goals, monitors results, and adjusts strategies as needed to maximize visitor engagement, overnight stays, and visitor spending. The role also includes reporting to the board of directors, maintaining compliance with applicable regulations, and fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation.

Qualifications

  • Experience with outdoor recreation, demonstrating an understanding of outdoor tourism and regional attractions.
  • Background in outdoor education or training, with the ability to support programs that highlight local experiences and activities.
  • Knowledge of first aid and safety practices relevant to outdoor and visitor-focused environments.
  • Strong public speaking skills, with experience representing an organization to diverse audiences, including community groups, media, and industry partners.
  • Proven leadership in tourism, hospitality, economic development, or destination marketing, ideally in a senior executive role.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strategic partnerships and collaborate with government, business, and community stakeholders.
  • Solid financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and decision-making abilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, tourism, public administration, or a related field; an advanced degree is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with West Virginia tourism assets and regional economic development is a plus.
