POSITION TITLE: Production Relief Operator
PAY GRADE: Non-Exempt / Grade 3
BUSINESS UNIT: Residential Business Unit Dept: 10-FiberglassBOX Processing
REPORTS TO: Supervisor-Production

PURPOSE: An effective Production Relief Operator holds safety as a value. Demonstrates safe work practices in all they do and has no hesitation notifying anyone of an unsafe situation. Can work as a cohesive team and has the skill to identify problems and recommend improvements to provide quality, on-time products to our customers. Ability to perform material handling duties utilizing a stand-up forklift to move material, as required, throughout the facility.
1.0 DUTIES / RESPONSBILITIES:
  1. Follow all company safety guidelines, practices, and procedures. This includes the proper use of personal protective equipment when required.
  2. Start and shutdown machines and monitor their operations, restocking materials as required.
  3. Read work orders and production schedule to ensure conformance to customer specifications.
  4. Consistently meet production schedule plan and attainment goals.
  5. Ability to learn different equipment/operations and able to rotate to all workstations within the area. This may occur with little to no notice, based upon priority or staffing needs.
  6. Conducts a safety inspection before operating lift trucks, notifies supervisor of any safety concerns.
  7. Operate lift truck in a safe manner to move material, as required, throughout the plant.
  8. Maintain an accurate and constant flow of material to the operator and remove processed parts from the machines.
  9. Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot palletizer and tape machine. Ability to utilize tablet/iPad and scanners. Palletize cartons on skids according to palletized layouts. Ability to lift and move baskets of parts using a hand cart, pallet jack, electric mule or lift truck.
  10. Ability to use hand tools, wrenches, hammer, screwdriver, utility knife, pliers, etc.
  11. Maintain a constant visual on parts produced and perform visual quality audits to determine all surfaces are within standards and that all parts required are in place before packing the part.
  12. Gather scrap and R/F parts from each machine and place on appropriate skids. Ability to operate a trash compactor and utilize a barrel snatch.
  13. Follow company policies and procedures.
  14. Always maintain cleanliness of equipment and workstation areas.
  15. Determine and report product quality issues to appropriate parties.
  16. Work with team members to maximize productivity and efficiency.
  17. Targeted reduction in waste of all forms (time, materials, labor).
  18. Communicate effectively with supervisors, group leads and business unit managers.
  19. Creating and continually improving upon a culture of teamwork, accountability, and trust by modeling expectations and providing positive feedback to drive desired behaviors.
  20. Documenting and submitting performance reporting as required.
  21. Gaining knowledge and keeping up to date on safety and quality regulatory notices.
  22. Responsible for maintaining regular and reliable attendance and punctuality per company policies and procedures.
  23. Performing other duties, as assigned.

2.0 REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES

3.0 EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum High School Diploma, GED or one-year equivalent experience required.
  • Prior experience working in a manufacturing setting preferred.
  • Experience operating hand tools, and a stand-up forklift a plus.
  • Capable of growing in knowledge and demonstrating competency in your job.

4.0 MENTAL / VISUAL REQUIREMENT:
  • Continuous mental and visual requirements when operating a lift truck.
  • Must be able to read and complete process tags and recognize a variety of parts.
  • Ability to communicate well in both verbal and written forms.
  • Ability to generate reporting documents and participate in team meetings.
  • Self-motivated with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Good general ability with use of computer touch screens and written documents.
  • Basic math skills, ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

5.0 PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.   • Ability to stand while operating a lift truck for extended periods of time, walk, use hands to feel or handle objects, tools, or controls
  • Reach and lift with hands and arms; talk, see and hear.
  • Moderate to heavy physical labor required to lift and move baskets and cartons of parts.
  • Must possess good dexterity skills
  • Associate will work in a production setting and may repeatedly/occasionally be required to perform repetitive work tasks
  • Use of hands and wrists continuously
  • Must be able to carry, push, pull or lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Engage in frequent bending, stooping, squatting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and lifting of parts
  • Associate may need to be available for extended shift hours if needed and assist in emergency situations
  • Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice, based on operational needs.

6.0 WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The environmental characteristics described here are representative of those an associate will encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. Due to the open environment of the building, must be able to work in various temperatures.
