Job description

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Virtual Platform Infrastructure Engineer with deep cross-domain experience in enterpriseclass virtualization platforms, server engineering, and onpremises hosting services.

This position will drive key initiatives that support advancing platform design, automation, and modernization across hosting services within Broadcom/VMware and OpenShift Virtualization platform within the environment. These efforts streamline platform lifecycle management, performance/capacity, VM provisioning services, infrastructure delivery, strengthen compliance, and improve the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of systems across the enterprise.


In this role, you will:

  • Lead complex initiatives to develop infrastructure to provide solutions for business applications
  • Participate in various projects intended to continually improve or upgrade the infrastructure
  • Evaluate internal and external software solutions which could be leveraged to meet target state architecture goals
  • Review and analyze high impact outages to ensure the proper processes and procedures are in place to avoid problems in the future
  • Design, build, deploy and maintain infrastructure solutions through collaborative efforts with the team and third-party vendors
  • Design, code, test, debug, and document programs using Agile development practices
  • Make decisions in technical designs, implementation plans and identify project risks and resource requirements
  • Direct the daily risk and control flow of operations, focusing on policies, procedures, and work standards to ensure success
  • Recommend courses of action to maintain cost effectiveness and achieve results
  • Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues, and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals
  • Interact with customer and vendor


Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 5+ years of Technology Infrastructure Engineering and Solutions experience
  • 5+ years of Distributed Infrastructure and/or related IT Infrastructure experience
  • 5+ years of experience working with products related to the Automation of Virtualization, Server Infrastructure, Converged/Hyper-Converged hosting

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with Hypervisors: VMware and Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization
  • Experience with software defined networks and load balancers: NSX, AVI
  • Experience with Kubernetes or OpenShift container platforms
  • Scripting and/or automation experience: Python, Ansible, PowerShell
  • Operating Systems Knowledge:Windows, Linux
  • Experience leading or supporting the design, evaluation, and implementation of complex infrastructure hosting solutions and capabilities
  • Experience working in agile product teams in a highly regulated financial services industry
  • Experience with converged and/or hyper-converged infrastructure solutions at-scale in a large enterprise
  • Experience with virtualization and virtual hosting technologies and administration
  • Experience mentoring high-performing engineers
  • Experience with taking software/hardware products and services from inception to customer delivery
  • Proven experience transforming to and/or managing infrastructure functions in a product model construct, which would include participation in product roadmap planning and feature/backlog prioritization
  • Skilled in automation to include familiarity with VMWare Aria/VRA, OpenShift Virtualization, Ansible, and other similar products
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code delivery and management
  • Familiarity with Cloud hosting concepts and operating models
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of technologies related to infrastructure engineering
  • Ability to help remediate tough technical support issues
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of team on multiple overlapping projects
  • Ability to operate effectively in a geographically dispersed organization
  • Customer focused, service-oriented attitude.
