Cole Engineering Services (CESI), a By Light company, is recognized as a premier provider of modeling and simulation (M&S) training solutions to the Federal Government and industry. Since 2004, CESI has been at the forefront of developing, maintaining, and integrating simulation-based training, serious gaming, technical services, training and other support in live, virtual, constructive, and gaming (LVCG) domains.  CESI also designs, builds and runs infrastructure, platforms, applications and processes that enable cyber training for the integrated multi-domain force. Our vision is to become a worldwide full spectrum LVCG and cyber training/analysis developer, integrator and services provider.


Provides program and proposal support to accurately document data, graphs, procedures, presentations, etc. Candidate should have a foundation in writing technical documentation and manuals and be comfortable interacting with software engineers, development teams, customers, and users. The Technical Writer should have the ability to design and layout graphical product overviews and related marketing material.


  • Develop initial outline for any assigned technical document.
  • Review and format Contract Data Requirement List (CDRL).
  • Develop and maintain program documentation for CESI and government training facilities:
    • User’s Guide
    • Training System Support Document (TSSD)
    • Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Manual
    • Trainer Facility Report (TFR)
  • Perform configuration management of assigned documents using available tools.
  • Develop and maintain PowerPoint or equivalent presentations for high level customers.
  • Maintain and organize program materials in Confluence.
  • All other related duties as assigned.

  • B.A. in English or Journalism, Technical Communications, or Professional Writing.
  • 3 or more years experience as Technical Writer in the Department of Defense industry.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, grammar, and self-editing and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office products; Adobe Acrobat; Visio and other graphics applications.
  • Produce graphics and illustrations using Visio, including timing diagrams, block diagrams, and flow charts.
  • Clear communication skills with end-user to determine documentation and software needs.
  • Must be organized, efficient, and accurate in work products.
  • Ability to collect, organize, and clarify technical information in a clear, logical and concise manner.
  • Ability to utilize technical engineering specifications and hands-on experience with custom applications to develop user documentation.
  • Ability to use source control/configuration management tools such as Git.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, engineering environment and to meet deadlines and work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to conduct peer reviews of documentation and solicit and incorporate feedback.
  • Ability and drive to complete assignments on schedule.
  • Write using clear and concise language using proper English in a format understandable to the target audience (Users and Maintainers).

  • The ability to obtain a SECRET to TOP SECRET security clearance. Security Clearance requirements will be specified in the Government's Task Order.
