Job Description
This is an UNPAID internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program for transitioning active-duty US military personnel. DoD SkillBridge Internships are available to help transitioning active-duty military personnel gain real-world experience in the work force sometime during their final 180 days of active-duty service. The intern will actively train on meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and with senior company leadership. HII Mission Technologies Internship programs are focused on placing transitioning military into internships that require KSAs, Education & Military Training similar to their current or previous military jobs; positions that could easily transition over to a full-time regular and permanent job with HII.
For this internship, the SkillBridge intern will train as an Engineering Technician 3 within HII-Mission Technologies, reporting to a designated HII Supervisor, and working alongside an HII Systems Engineer, with the goal of learning the maintenance actions and duties required of our Engineering Technicians in support of the Navy Battle Force Tactical Trainer (BFTT) system and Integrated Training Systems technicians and the required maintainer responsibilities. The intern will be assigned special projects as needed.
Desired End State (3 month target)
At the end of three months, the intern will be able to further develop skills needed to be presented with a problem, trouble shoot, provide recommendation or path forward to offer a solution, complete reports specific to BFTT, ATD, and related integrated training systems equipment and support pierside repair work.
  • The intern will develop a good understanding of the Integrated Training Systems Installation and Sustainment (ITSIS) upgrades, life-cycle management, fleet support and continuous maintaining to include:
    • Utilize training and Grooms schedule and complete maintenance actions.
    • Understanding requisite requirements to perform Pre-Installation Check Out (PICO), System Operational Verification Tests (SOVT), and Fleet CASREP Response support.
    • Troubleshooting and diagnosing BFTT and ATD systems.
    • Documenting conditions found and completing weekly Fleet Support and System Status reports.
  • Mission Technologies will benefit from the military background of the SkillBridge intern's BFTT technician knowledge and experience specific to Navy Integrated Training Systems and considers the SkillBridge internship an overall positive experience.

Assumptions/Restrictions
  • SkillBridge Intern will be eligible for Secret Clearance.
  • SkillBridge Intern will be available during business hours of the contract supported for meetings and training.
  • Skillbridge Intern will not represent HII back to the DoD, or represent the DoD back to HII.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Training Plan
Contract Introduction
  • Week 1: In processing, Introductions/office familiarization.
  • Week 2: Introduction to the various BFTT and ATD equipment and upgrades as well as the applicable safety measures required for HII.

Maintenance
  • Week 3: Intro to basic equipment operations, maintenance, and documentation for reporting.
  • Week 4: Intro to historical problems presented and solutions designed, fabricated, and tested to solve the particular problem.
  • Week 5: Introduction to diagnostic tools, setup, and operation, comprehension of testing methodologies
  • Week 6: Connect to Virtual Machine for simulated shortcomings, troubleshooting and proper testing.
  • Week 7: Perform routine BFTT operator and maintenance support per the vessel schedule under the supervision of Systems Engineers and senior leadership and document weekly BFTT reports for the vessel supported.
  • Week 8: Plan and execute process to service BFTT systems in support of evolutions based on vessel schedule (CSQTT, OCSOT)
  • Week 9: Familiarization with the process when a problem or discrepancy on one of the BFTT or ATD vessels is identified and how recommendation is provided to the program office (CASREP and Fleet Support).
  • Week 10: Support development of engineering documentation, reports, drawings with Engineer Systems IV on the task
  • Week 11: Support pierside maintenance repairs / emergent work orders in accordance with work package.
  • Week 12: Engage with HII PM and team for each of the Integrated Training Systems performance and evaluation feedback.

Minimum Qualifications
Active-Duty Military ONLY within final 180 days of active-duty service. Applications accepted within final 12 months of active-duty service. Education and Experience dependent on Program of Instruction.
  • Navy Battle Force Tactical Trainer (BFTT) system Technician experience 2 years
  • Navy Combat Systems experience
  • Secret security clearance required
