Job description

REAL Journey Academies (RJA) is a non-profit charter school management organization designed to significantly increase college entrance and graduation rates for underserved students in the Inland Empire. We aim to impact and revitalize communities through the development of education and other supportive partnerships.
Job Purpose:
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, provide language development instruction to individual or small groups of English Language Learners at the elementary/secondary level; monitor and report student progress regarding behavior and performance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide language development instruction and assistance to individual or small groups of students, under the general direction of the teachers.
  • Provide tutorial assistance to students in second language acquisition.
  • Participate in the preparation of lessons and plans; administer and score a variety of tests.
  • Observe and control behavior of students according to approved
  • procedures; report progress regarding student performance and behavior.
  • Perform a variety of duties such as preparation of instructional materials, scoring papers, and maintaining records and files.
  • Operate classroom technology and software.
  • Assist students by providing proper examples, emotional support, a good English-speaking model and general guidance in the school setting.
  • Confer, as needed, with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs.
  • Meets with staff or other professionals to review program materials or students.
  • Meets with teachers to discuss students' progress.
  • Communicates with Spanish-speaking parents, orally and in writing, to relay school information.
  • Translates as needed.
  • Directs group activities of students as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as related to job description.

Minimum Requirements:
  • High School degree or equivalent
  • Bachelor's in Education or related field

  • Make arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.

Physical demands:
  • Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
  • Occasional or frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, and reaching for extended periods of time
  • Physical ability to bend over, squat, stand and sit for periods of time, and move with some speed
  • Occasional computer work including but not limited to typing
