Description:

The Preschool Teacher Assistant must be energetic and enthusiastic and work well with other staff members. Teacher Assistants must be able to take direction from the Preschool Teacher. They must be able to communicate professionally with parents and visitors. Teacher Assistants must maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.

The Teacher Assistant is responsible for assisting the Teacher in providing overall care and supervision to an assigned group of fifteen children ages 3-5 years old. The Teacher Assistant must be knowledgeable of the center curriculum and assist the Teacher in planning and implementing activities to support the curriculum.


The Capital Area YMCA Preschool agrees to take reasonable steps to:


1. Ensure availability of adequate resources and incentives for the creation and maintenance of an innovative and highly successful preschool;

2. Provide a constructive environment in which the Teacher can grow professionally;

3. Meet periodically on a schedule established by the Preschool to accomplish said reasonable steps.


To protect the health and well-being of our children, and to maintain the optimum classroom environment, the Preschool Teacher Assistant must be able to do the following:

1. Pass the state required physical exam and TB test

2. Lift a child weighing at least forty (40) pounds

3. Sit on the floor with children

4. Take short walks around the neighborhood

5. Chaperone on all field trips

6. Be able to mentally exercise reasonable judgment involving children’s safety in potentially dangerous situations

7. Independently care for and instruct the appropriate number of children within staff to child ratio for the age group assigned both in person and virtually.




Requirements:

The duties of a preschool teacher's assistant includes:


1. Interacting with children both in person and virtually,

2. Preparing snacks

3. Teaching children about numbers, colors and shapes

4. Helping children get dressed and changing their diapers when needed.

5. Evaluating students' social development and physical well-being.

6. Being prepared to temporarily take on the role of lead teacher when needed in both an in person and virtual environment.

7. Meeting periodically with assigned Preschool Teacher and Supervisor on a schedule established by the Capital Area YMCA Preschool Center to accomplish said reasonable steps.

Physical Requirements

1. Able to wear a face mask for prolonged periods of time if required.

2. Lift a child weighing at least forty (40) pounds

3. Sit on the floor with children

4. Take short walks around the neighborhood
