Position Overview:


The Part-Time Substitute Virtual Teacher provides flexible, as-needed instructional support to ensure continuity of learning in the absence of the assigned teacher. This role is responsible for delivering pre-planned lessons, facilitating student engagement, and maintaining a structured and positive virtual classroom environment.
The ideal candidate is adaptable, responsive, and comfortable teaching in a virtual setting across multiple grade levels or content areas as needed. They are able to quickly implement provided lesson plans, manage student participation, and uphold the school's expectations for instructional quality and professionalism, even with short notice or intermittent scheduling.


Essential Responsibilities:


Instructional Delivery
Deliver pre-planned lessons in a virtual classroom environment across assigned grade levels or content areas
Clearly communicate lesson objectives and guide students through instructional activities
Utilize provided materials (slides, resources, assignments) to ensure continuity of instruction
Maintain pacing and structure to maximize instructional time


Classroom Management & Student Engagement

Establish and maintain a positive, respectful, and focused virtual classroom environment
Monitor student participation and engagement during live sessions
Implement classroom routines and expectations consistent with school practices
Address basic student questions and provide support during instruction


Flexibility & Responsiveness

Adapt quickly to different grade levels, content areas, and teaching platforms
Follow provided lesson plans while making real-time adjustments as needed to support student understanding
Demonstrate professionalism and reliability in a flexible, part-time role
Be available on an as-needed basis, sometimes with short notice


Collaboration & Communication
Communicate with instructional leaders and staff regarding lesson delivery and any student concerns
Document attendance, participation, and any notable issues during the lesson
Provide brief feedback to the assigned teacher following coverage, as needed
Collaborate with staff to ensure a smooth transition before and after substitute coverage

Technology & Virtual Learning Expectations
Effectively use the school's learning management system and virtual teaching platforms
Troubleshoot minor technical issues to maintain continuity of instruction
Ensure students are able to access and engage with digital materials
Uphold expectations for digital citizenship and appropriate online behavior


Qualifications:


Required:
High School Diploma
Ability to teach across multiple grade levels or content areas as needed
Strong classroom management and student engagement skills in an online setting
Excellent communication, organization, and time-management skills
Comfortable using educational technology platforms (e.g., LMS systems, video conferencing tools)
Ability to quickly build rapport with students and maintain a positive learning environment
Flexible schedule with availability during school hours on an as-needed basis


Preferred
Bachelor's degree; teaching certification preferred
Previous experience in a virtual or online education environment
Experience with Project-Based Learning (PBL) models
Experience teaching or supporting instruction in a K-12 setting, preferably in a virtual environment
Prior substitute teaching or instructional support experience preferred

Work Conditions:
