Job description

Nurse Inpatient Staff Registered Nurse (RN)

The Nurse Inpatient Staff Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients and oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants, as appropriate to the setting. The nurse will assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation. Other duties included but not limited to the following:

  • Manages nursing care of patients, organizes, and completes own assignments in a safe and timely manner, assisting team members as necessary.
  • Demonstrates the ability to improve the effectiveness of communications and interactions with others, to inspire their cooperation and confidence to ensure safe and effective outcomes in the current practice setting.
  • Applies clinical knowledge/judgment to lead staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes within the immediate practice setting.
  • Shares knowledge and creates opportunities for collaboration that encourage team cohesiveness.
  • Establishes a therapeutic relationship, allowing the patient to achieve optimal function through assessment and treatment of their health enhancing the patient experience, satisfaction, and/or safety.
  • Improves Veteran/patient driven care by resolving experience issues such as coordination of care, timeliness or process issues, common themes of dissatisfaction, or environment of care concerns for the immediate practice setting.
  • Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately.
  • Expands knowledge base and practice evaluation through mentoring, precepting, and/or teaching to improve outcomes in the immediate practice setting.
  • Assesses the immediate practice setting to identify efficient, cost-effective care delivery.
  • Self-directed in professional development activities.
  • Provides the customers with consistent information according to established policies and procedures.
  • Consistently communicates and treats customers (patients, visitors, volunteers, and all Medical Center staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
