Job description

Summary

This position is located at the Fargo VA Health Care System in Fargo, North Dakota.

Responsibilities
  • Advocate and support the VA Midwest Health Care Network’s Whole Health System of care in each Medical Center.
  • Operate within a model with three core elements to create personalized health plans for each Veteran, emphasizing healing relationships, healing environments, and connection to the Veteran’s community.
  • Provide IV sedation, conduction anesthesia, or general anesthesia for patients.
  • Perform pre‑operative evaluation for surgical patients.
  • Participate in a team approach to ensure appropriate patient assessments, anticipate patient care needs, prevent avoidable complications, and achieve optimal patient conditions.
  • Act in adherence to nursing care and ethical principles.
  • Function within the scope of practice as delineated by the Chief of Anesthesiology in collaboration with the Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS) – Surgical Care Integrated Clinical Care (ICC).
  • Participate in an even distribution of call as determined by the Chief of Anesthesiology/Chief CRNA in collaboration with the ACOS – Surgical Care ICC.
  • Perform additional anesthesia procedures for which the anesthetist has completed training and demonstrated competence.
Qualifications
  • Completed appropriate training and demonstrated proficiency in administering the following procedures:
    • Management of procedures for rendering a patient insensible to pain and emotional stress during surgical, obstetrical, and certain medical procedures
    • Support of life functions under the stress of anesthetic and surgical manipulations
    • Clinical management of the patient unconscious from other causes
    • Management of problems in pain relief
    • Management of problems in cardiac and respiratory resuscitation
    • Application of specific methods of inhalation therapy
    • Clinical management of various fluid‑electrolyte‑and metabolic disturbances
    • Local infiltration anesthesia
    • Bier block
    • Regional anesthesia
    • Saddle block
    • Other spinal techniques
    • Insertion of radial artery line
    • Peripheral nerve block
    • Placement of epidural cannula for administration of analgesic agents
    • Central venous pressure line insertion
    • Swan Ganz insertion
    • PICC (peripherally inserted central catheter) line insertion
  • Basic Life Support Certified (certificate required)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certified (certificate required)
  • Full and unrestricted license from any U.S. State or territory

Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP)

This position is eligible for the EDRP. Eligible applicants must meet specific requirements and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment. Award amounts range from $200 000 up to $50 000 per year, with eligibility periods of one to five years. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
