A Glimpse of the Job

The College of Architecture invites applications for three Research Assistants - Community Health Worker to help with community-based research and survey activities. The CHW will build trust with community members, recruit participants for the study, collect survey data, and help with participant retention and follow-up. The CHW will help connect the research team with the community in a respectful, culturally sensitive, and professional way.

What You Need to Know

Compensation: $20/hourly.

Other Requirements and Factors:

  • May have to work on the weekend and/or after normal hours.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Training:

Selected candidates may be required to complete:

  • Human subjects research training (e.g., Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Program).

  • Study-specific protocol training.

Community Engagement and Trust Building

  • Clearly explain the study, study procedures, and participant rights, and answer participant questions.

  • Attend community events and create opportunities to advertise for this study.

  • Build positive relationships with community members and local organizations to encourage participation in the study.

Participant Recruitment and Retention

  • Recruit eligible participants for the survey using approved outreach methods.

  • Conduct follow-up contacts and appointment reminders.

  • Conduct refusal conversion efforts using ethical practices.

  • Maintain accurate logs of contacts and recruitment activities.

Data Collection

  • Administer surveys following study protocols and informed consent procedures using face-to-face interviews, telephone interviews, self-administered paper surveys, self-administered tablet- or web-based surveys.

  • Accurately document contact attempts.

  • Accurately document survey responses.

  • Protect participant confidentiality and data security during all interactions.

Participant Gift Card Distribution and Tracking

  • Distribute gift cards according to study procedures.

  • Keep accurate records of gift card distribution.

Data Management and Uploading

  • Upload contact logs and survey data using approved electronic systems.

  • Securely handle participant information and study records.

Team Collaboration

  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and performance assessment activities.

  • Communicate regularly with supervisors about field activities, participant concerns, and project issues.

  • Assist with community outreach events and other project-related activities as needed.
