They can assess patients, offer medical advice, monitor health conditions, and coordinate care, all from a remote location. Virtual Remote RNs play a crucial role in expanding healthcare access, especially for patients in rural or underserved areas. Their work often includes video calls, phone consultations, digital charting, and collaboration with other healthcare providers.

How do virtual remote RNs typically communicate and collaborate with patients and healthcare teams?

Job description

What Makes This Role Unique

Few roles offer the chance to bring real clinical impact to a population that rarely receives it. As a Telehealth Nurse Practitioner with Esperta Health, you'll deliver expert wound care to incarcerated patients in jails and prisons, settings where quality healthcare is often hard to come by. Working remotely within a collaborative, physician-led model, you'll guide assessment and treatment planning for complex chronic wounds, directing care that can meaningfully change an inmate's quality of life and recovery. Your clinical judgment and expertise drive outcomes for patients who need it most. If you've been looking for a role where clinical excellence meets genuine purpose, this is it.

Position Overview

We are seeking an exceptional Wound Care Nurse Practitioner to serve as a remote consultant supporting correctional healthcare teams nationwide. This is not an entry-level position. The ideal candidate brings extensive experience managing complex wounds, exercises outstanding clinical judgment, and is comfortable making timely, evidence-based recommendations independently while collaborating with physicians, nurses, and facility medical teams. Expertise in wound care paired with vascular disease, infectious disease, limb preservation, or complex chronic disease management is strongly preferred.

This part-time role requires 20 hours per week, with potential to grow into a full-time position. It calls for clinicians who are highly accountable, detail-oriented, and responsive, and who are willing to obtain and maintain multiple state licenses as the company continues to expand.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review patient consultations and provide evidence-based wound care recommendations through our proprietary consultation platform.
  • Assess complex wounds and identify barriers to healing, infection risks, vascular concerns, and opportunities for escalation of care.
  • Develop practical treatment recommendations utilizing approved formularies and available resources within correctional settings, including guidance on advanced wound management, infection prevention, offloading, vascular evaluation, and appropriate use of wound care products.
  • Collaborate with facility physicians, advanced practice providers, and nursing teams to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Participate in quality assurance initiatives, clinical outcome reviews, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Assist with development of clinical protocols, educational content, and customer training initiatives.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant documentation.
  • Participate in rotating after-hours and holiday coverage schedules, and travel occasionally for company meetings, educational events, and customer engagement activities.

Requirements

Ideal Candidate Profile
  • A wound care expert with deep experience managing complex, high-acuity wounds.
  • Confident making timely, evidence-based recommendations independently.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and accountable.
  • Comfortable delivering expert guidance remotely through a consultation platform.
  • Passionate about improving outcomes for an underserved patient population.
  • Collaborative and communicative, working closely with facility physicians, advanced practice providers, and nursing teams.
Required Qualifications
  • Current Nurse Practitioner certification through ANCC or AANP.
  • Current wound care certification (ABWM, WOCNCB, NAWCO, or equivalent approved certification).
  • Minimum of 5 years of advanced wound care experience managing chronic and complex wounds.
  • Active, unrestricted RN and APRN licenses in Arizona (additional APRN state licenses a plus).
  • Strong understanding of evidence-based wound healing principles and clinical practice guidelines.
  • Excellent written communication and documentation skills.
  • High level of personal accountability, professionalism, and integrity.
  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
Other Requirements
  • Reliable high-speed internet service.
  • Dedicated home office environment.
  • Ability to work scheduled hours and remain engaged throughout the workday.
  • Willingness to participate in call coverage rotations.
  • Ability to travel occasionally as needed.

Benefits

  • Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
  • Retirement Plan (401k)
  • Life Insurance
  • Paid Time Off
  • Short Term & Long Term Disability
  • Training & Development
