Every day, our products move millions of people as we work to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.
The Role
Do you enjoy creating unique, highly technical engineering solutions to solve unusual challenges? Are you curious about how vehicle design becomes reality from the earliest stages of development? The Compartment Integration Design Engineer is responsible for integrating and balancing engineering requirements in partnership with Architecture, Studio, SMT, Performance, Human Factors, Manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate has a passion for the automotive industry, strong systems-thinking capability, and the ability to objectively balance customer needs, design intent, engineering feasibility, timing, and manufacturing requirements. This role requires creativity, initiative, and a high level of independent judgment.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
  • Incorporate Voice of the Customer insights into package design
  • Develop, refine, and finalize engineering criteria in collaboration with design and engineering partners
  • Lead creation of integrated technical solutions that resolve packaging issues while preserving design intent
  • Apply DFSS methodologies to drive robust design development and manage tradeoffs across cost, mass, timing, assembly, variation, and other program imperatives
  • Integrate regional and global requirements and develop alternatives that meet brand and market needs
  • Communicate proactively with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve technical challenges
  • Ensure package and Studio models align with customer-facing targets (spaciousness, visibility, accommodation, storage/SALT, cargo, access)
  • Lead cross-functional surface and integration forums, including CITs and Surface Workgroups
  • Drive issue resolution and escalation for assigned areas to ensure timely closure
  • Support development of digital and physical design surfaces, including clay models, clinic properties, and VR/MR mockups
  • Benchmark competitive vehicles to ensure package competitiveness in clearances, component locations, sizes, and functional performance
  • Develop meeting agendas and publish minutes
  • Create NX models to guide surface development and maintain strong NX proficiency
  • Develop space claims and package solutions that maximize space utilization while meeting customer needs
  • Support Math Virtual Assessments and Synch Point reviews
  • Prepare and deliver presentations, reports, and technical documentation to communicate design concepts, status, risks, and recommendations

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in automotive engineering, vehicle integration, packaging, or related areas.
  • Strong understanding of engineering theory and automotive design principles
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to work both independently and in cross-functional teams
  • Ability to integrate complex systems with a strong passion for design
  • High analytical capability to solve complex technical problems
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and their impact on design feasibility
  • Proficiency with Siemens NX / Unigraphics CAD tools
  • Basic understanding of engineering specifications
  • Experience managing engineering deliverables, issue tracking, and program execution for assigned systems

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Passion for automotive design, customer-focused package development, enabling innovative vehicle solutions.
  • DFSS certification, Green Belt or Black Belt.
  • Coursework or experience in statistics, mechanics of materials, vehicle and occupant packaging, or integrated design.
  • Experience with integrating underhood systems and components in the space between CRFM and dash, sheet metal parts, drive unit, suspension, brakes, exhaust, RESS, charge related hardware, and ability to assess groundlines, nominal tire placement, tire envelopes/flops, turning circle, towing, shipping, and jacking requirements.
  • Experience leading or supporting CITs, packaging reviews, and cross-functional issue resolution forums.
