Job Description
Our Mission:
At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We're turning today's impossible into tomorrow's standard -from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.
Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.
Job Overview
General Motors is transforming into a softwaredefined, technologydriven automotive company, with a growing emphasis on inhouse hardware and RF system design to enable faster innovation, deeper system integration, and improved product quality.
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior RF Coexistence Engineer to support multiradio performance execution across GM's nextgeneration product platforms. In this role, you will focus on coexistence behavior, throughput, latency, and systemlevel performance across cellular, WiFi, Bluetooth, GNSS, UWB, and emerging wireless technologies.
This is a senior individual contributor role that plays a critical part in GM's inhouse design (IHD) strategy, embedding coexistence expertise early in design, validation, and integration cycles while working within agile, crossfunctional development teams.
Key Responsibilities
Coexistence Execution & Ownership
Own coexistence performance execution for assigned systems, features, and vehicle programs
Develop and implement multiradio coexistence solutions within defined vehicle and system architectures
Support early design phases by identifying coexistence risks and opportunities aligned with GM's inhouse development roadmap
Partner with internal design teams to reduce dependency on latestage supplier fixes
Analyze and improve:
Throughput degradation
Latency, packet loss, and jitter
Radio contention and scheduling inefficiencies
Evaluate coexistence behavior in realworld, invehicle scenarios:
Simultaneous radio operation (e.g., WiFi + Bluetooth audio + cellular data)
Support system tradeoffs balancing performance, power, cost, and use
Collaborate closely with internal:
RF, antenna, PCB, SoC, and firmware teams
Enable faster iteration cycles by connecting:
Early simulation
Bench and lab validation
Vehiclelevel testing
Support agile development models through incremental learning, fast debug, and early risk retirement
CrossFunctional Technical Integration
Influence system design decisions to improve coexistence performance, including:
Antenna placement and isolation
RF frontend architecture
Clocking and aggressor management
Collaborate with firmware and software teams on:
Coexistence algorithms
Scheduling and arbitration mechanisms
Frequency hopping and timedomain coordination
Act as a technical bridge between hardware realities and protocollevel behavior
Coexistence Testing & Validation
Develop and execute coexistence validation plans, including:
OTA and conducted test methods
Throughput and sensitivity measurement under concurrent radio operation
Define and run coexistence test matrices and stress scenarios aligned with vehicle use cases
Utilize tools such as:
Wireless test systems (UXM, CMX, MT8000A, CMW500)
OTA chambers, spectrum/network analyzers, protocol analyzers, and sniffers
Debug & RootCause Analysis
Lead rootcause investigation of coexistencerelated performance issues by:
Identifying aggressor / victim interactions
Analyzing conducted, radiated, and baseband coupling paths
Debug across multiple layers:
RF frontend and antenna systems
Baseband and firmware behavior
System scheduling and software interactions
Capture learnings to support reuse and continuous improvement within GM's inhouse design ecosystem
Design for Coexistence (DfC)
Apply GMdefined designforcoexistence frameworks, including:
PCB layout (grounding, isolation, return paths)
Antenna placement and coupling minimization
Shielding, filtering, and noise mitigation
Systemlevel timing and resource management strategies
Support earlystage coexistence modeling and simulation in collaboration with system architects
Technical Leadership
Serve as a goto coexistence subjectmatter expert for assigned programs
Mentor junior engineers on coexistence fundamentals, testing, and debug techniques
Contribute to inhouse guidelines, documentation, and repeatable technical practices
Provide technical input into architecture reviews, design decisions
Be comfortable is dealing with ambiguity, self starter setting objectives aligned with phase of the product development cycle
Required Qualifications
M.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field (PhD preferred)
6-10 years of RF/wireless engineering experience with strong emphasis on coexistence (Coex)
Strong understanding of:
Multiradio interference mechanisms
Wireless protocols (WiFi, Bluetooth, LTE/5G) and their interactions
Handson experience with:
Wireless test equipment (UXM, CMX, MT8000A, CMW500)
OTA testing and coexistence validation setups
RF simulation tools (CST, HFSS, FEKO)
Proven systemlevel debugging and datadriven analysis skills
Preferred Experience
Automotive wireless systems (infotainment, telematics, connected vehicle platforms)
Consumer electronics (smartphones, wearables, AR/VR)
Experience supporting inhouse hardware or platform development teams
Familiarity with firmwaredriven coexistence algorithms and protocol analyzers
