What is a virtual product manager?

Virtual Product Managers are professionals who oversee the development and lifecycle of digital products while working remotely, often coordinating teams and stakeholders from different locations. They are responsible for defining product strategies, gathering requirements, prioritizing features, and ensuring successful product launches. Virtual Product Managers use digital tools to collaborate effectively, manage workflows, and maintain clear communication with cross-functional teams. Their role is critical in today's increasingly remote and distributed work environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a virtual product manager?

To thrive as a Virtual Product Manager, you need expertise in product lifecycle management, market analysis, and strategic planning, often supported by a degree in business, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Jira, Trello, Agile methodologies, and product analytics platforms such as Google Analytics is typically required. Strong communication, leadership, and remote collaboration skills help drive cross-functional teams and maintain alignment across digital channels. These skills ensure effective product development, clear stakeholder engagement, and successful outcomes in a remote work environment.

How do virtual product managers typically collaborate with remote and cross-functional teams?

Virtual Product Managers often work with distributed teams that may span different time zones and disciplines, such as engineering, design, and marketing. Effective collaboration relies on regular virtual meetings, clear documentation, and the use of project management tools to keep everyone aligned. Building strong relationships and maintaining open communication channels are crucial to ensure that priorities are understood and progress stays on track. Adapting to various communication styles and being proactive in resolving misunderstandings can help Virtual Product Managers foster a productive remote team environment.

Job description

At Capgemini Invent, we believe difference drives change. As inventive transformation consultants, we blend our strategic, creative and scientific capabilities, collaborating closely with clients to deliver cutting‑edge solutions. Join us to drive transformation tailored to our clients' challenges of today and tomorrow. Informed and validated by science and data. Superpowered by creativity and design. All underpinned by technology created with purpose.

Joining frog means you'll be joining the 'pond,' a global network of studios, each with a thriving in‑person and vibrant virtual culture. frogs are curious, collaborative, and courageous, united by our passion for improving the human experience through design, while each bringing our unique and diverse skills and experiences to the table.

Your Role

Product Managers are responsible for the strategy, definition, and delivery of physical and digital products and services. You will balance vision, strategy, data, design, and execution to support our clients in building the best products for their customers.

As a frog Product Manager, you are expected to represent depth in the craft of product strategy, definition, and delivery - as an individual contributor and as a thought partner to the global community of practice. You will lead client conversations within your domain, providing articulate recommendations and helping guide client choices. You must be able to originate meaningful perspectives, innovative concepts, and value‑oriented approaches, and collaborate with a diverse set of working styles and personalities. You will have opportunities to support business development through proposal input and pitch contributions.

In this role you will play a key part in:

  • Shape Product Strategy & Vision - Partner with clients to define compelling product visions and roadmaps that align business objectives with customer needs, leveraging market insights and data‑driven decision‑making
  • Drive Product Lifecycle Execution - Lead facets of the product lifecycle, including ideation, definition, and delivery, balancing innovation, feasibility, and business impact
  • Champion Product Frameworks & Methodologies - Apply and adapt industry best practices in product strategy, roadmap development, prioritization frameworks, and Agile methodologies to accelerate progress and optimize outcomes
  • Lead Cross‑Functional Collaboration - Work closely with designers, engineers, researchers, and business stakeholders to create aligned, customer‑centric solutions
  • Navigate Ambiguity & Complexity - Guide clients through uncertainty by framing problems, developing hypotheses, and rapidly iterating on solutions using qualitative and quantitative insights
  • Advocate for the Customer - Leverage user research, market data, and experimentation to drive product decisions that maximize customer satisfaction, engagement, and retention
  • Coach & Uplevel Product Thinking - Mentor junior client and internal team members on product management best practices, fostering a culture of experimentation
  • Support Business Development - Contribute to proposal development and pitch materials, and support thought leadership in product strategy as capacity allows
  • Apply AI/GenAI/Agentic Capabilities - Incorporate AI, GenAI, and agentic tools and workflows into product strategy, delivery, and day‑to‑day execution (e.g., research synthesis, prototyping, requirements drafting, roadmap analysis), and help identify where these capabilities create real product or client value
Qualifications & Experience

You have a proven ability to think commercially, strategically, and creatively, with a track record of running the product management function on real engagements - not just supporting one.

  • 4–6 years of professional product management experience
  • Highly developed strategic, concepting, and data analysis skills, demonstrated in a portfolio of recent work
  • Experience in technical requirements writing (user stories, epics, MVP scope)
  • Confident presentation and storytelling abilities, including to client stakeholders
  • Experience collaborating in multifunctional teams as the product management lead for a workstream
  • Proficiency with contemporary prototyping and research tools and methods
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal oversight and mentor more junior team members
  • Hands‑on experience using AI/GenAI/agentic tools in a product management context (e.g., research, prototyping, requirements, roadmap or data analysis) — this is a required, not optional, capability for all Invent hires
  • Authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship

Preferred: A university degree in engineering, business management, or a related science or data discipline. Consulting, agency, or innovation‑studio experience is a plus.

What You’ll Love About Working Here?

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Build a network within the Capgemini Group and contribute to the education of other Business Units around practice offerings to support existing account expansion
  • Play a significant role in client proposals and RFI/RFP responses from initial brief to final sales presentations
  • Nurture and expand existing account relationships
  • Identify potential personal business relationships that can be leveraged by the practice to develop new business
  • Identify potential project extension and expansion opportunities while staffed on projects
  • Support the development of thought leadership and innovative offerings as they relate to AI/Data Science, Digital Customer Analytics, and Operational Analytics.
  • Support the upskilling of the team members on topics related to Data & Analytics
