Virtual PRN RNs must have strong communication skills, clinical experience, and a reliable internet connection to deliver quality care remotely.

What does a Virtual PRN RN do?

As a Virtual PRN RN, your shifts often vary based on patient demand, and you may be scheduled to work during evenings, nights, or weekends to cover peak times or urgent needs. You will spend your time conducting remote patient assessments, triaging cases, providing education, and coordinating care—all through secure telehealth platforms. The PRN (per diem) structure means you have flexibility in selecting shifts that fit your availability, making it an ideal option for nurses seeking a non-traditional work schedule. Collaboration with physicians, case managers, and support staff is common, and effective communication with both patients and colleagues is key to delivering high-quality care.

Familiarity with telehealth platforms, secure electronic health records (EHRs), and HIPAA compliance protocols is essential. Outstanding communication, self-motivation, and time management are crucial soft skills for success in this role. These abilities enable Virtual PRN RNs to deliver effective, patient-centered care and respond promptly to acute needs in a remote and often independent work environment.

What is the best remote job for registered nurses?

A virtual PRN RN is a remote nursing role that offers flexible scheduling and the ability to work from home. These positions often involve telehealth consultations, patient education, and care coordination, requiring strong communication skills and relevant licensure. They are suitable for experienced nurses seeking part-time or on-demand work in a remote setting.
