Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Operating Room position at a Level I trauma, Magnet-designated hospital, requiring at least 2.5 years of OR experience and an active IL RN license.
Job Details
• Work in the Operating Room department of an acute care hospital with 23 rooms,
• Facility is a Level I trauma center and Magnet-designated hospital with 562 staffed beds,
• Day shift schedule with alternating 4x10 hour shifts (10:45am-9:15pm or 12:45pm-11:15pm),
• Handles all surgical service lines except cardiovascular (CV),
• Case types include general surgery, orthopedics, neurology, urology, plastics, transplant, bariatrics, and trauma,
• Uses Cerner charting system (experience preferred),
• Uses equipment including electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources/cords, and Hana tables,
• On-call requirement of approximately 1 shift per week,
• Weekend requirement of 1 per month,
• Floating required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities as needed,
• Scrubs provided for this role,
• Not open to block scheduling,
Job Requirements
• Active Illinois RN license required in hand, or in active application process, at time of consideration,
• Minimum 2.5 years of Operating Room RN experience required,
• BLS certification required; CNOR and CST certifications preferred,
• AHA and Red Cross certifications accepted; RQI cards not accepted,
• Level I trauma center experience required,
• General OR and trauma surgical experience required,
• Required case experience includes appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair, laparoscopic procedures, mastectomy, and thyroidectomy,
• Required neurology case experience includes cervical fusion, craniotomy, laminectomy/discectomy, and lumbar fusion,
• Required orthopedic case experience includes arthroscopy, carpal tunnel release, and open/closed fracture reductions,
• Required urology case experience includes cystoscopy, nephrectomy, and prostatectomy,
• Required trauma case experience includes amputations, gunshot/stab wounds, and multiple-injury MVAs,
• Required experience with organ donation and transplant procedures,
• Required experience with free flap microvascular plastic surgery procedures,
• Required professional skills include blood product administration, infection control, radiation safety, specimen handling/labeling, Universal Protocol time-out procedures, and urinary bladder catheterization,
• Required emergency management skills including code response, fire safety, latex allergy protocols, and malignant hyperthermia management,
• Teaching hospital experience preferred,
• Prior travel nursing experience required,
• SSN and date of birth required for consideration,
Additional Information
• Provide circulating and/or scrub nursing support across multiple surgical specialties in a high-acuity trauma setting,
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position,
• Previous permanent or PRN employees of the hospital system must be separated from the facility for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler,
• Travel pairs are not accepted at this facility,
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this role,
• All requested time off must be reviewed and approved by the facility manager, with up to 5 non-holiday RTO days eligible for expedited approval,
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays,
• Open to assignment lengths ranging from 13 to 26 weeks, at the traveler's discretion,
• First day of assignment consists of virtual, at-home orientation with required modules to be completed by 4:00 PM CST,
• Housing in the area can be difficult to secure, so early searching is recommended
