Job description

Responsibilities
Peraton is seeking an experienced Network Engineer to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. The Network Engineer - Network Configuration will support the DHS CBP Network Operations Center (NOC) by managing, maintaining, and automating enterprise network configurations across a large-scale, multi-vendor network environment. This role is responsible for implementing network configuration changes, developing automation workflows, maintaining configuration compliance, and supporting operational stability across mission critical network infrastructure.
The Network Engineer will leverage network automation tools, scripting, and configuration management practices to improve deployment efficiency, reduce manual processes, maintain security compliance, and ensure network reliability. The position will collaborate with network operations, engineering, cybersecurity, and government stakeholders to support secure and efficient network operations.
Location: Onsite based in either Ashburn, VA, Springfield, VA or Orlando, FL. Candidates must reside near one of these locations to be considered.
Day to Day Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Configure, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot enterprise network devices including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers within a large-scale operational environment.
  • Utilize network automation platforms to deploy, validate, and manage network device configurations across a multi-vendor enterprise network.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts, workflows, and templates to support network configuration changes, device provisioning, software upgrades, and operational tasks.
  • Automate network configuration activities including ACL updates, VLAN provisioning, interface changes, routing policy updates, and configuration compliance checks.
  • Perform configuration backups, version control, and change validation activities to support operational continuity and rapid recovery.
  • Identify and remediate configuration drift by leveraging automated compliance monitoring and validation capabilities.
  • Develop and maintain vendor specific automation scripts supporting technologies such as Cisco IOS, IOS-XE, NX-OS, and Juniper JunOS.
  • Support network change management processes by validating, documenting, and implementing approved network changes in accordance with established procedures.
  • Perform network troubleshooting and incident resolution in support of NOC operations and established service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Support routing and switching technologies including BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, STP, VLANs, VRFs, ACLs, VPNs, and network segmentation.
  • Develop and maintain network documentation including topology diagrams, configuration standards, operational procedures, and automation playbooks.
  • Support network performance monitoring, capacity planning, and infrastructure lifecycle activities.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to maintain secure network configurations aligned with DHS security requirements, Zero Trust principles, and compliance standards.
  • Participate in root cause analysis activities and develop recommendations to improve network reliability and performance.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience, Associate's degree with 7 years of experience, or High School Diploma/equivalent with 9 years of experience.
  • U.S. Citizenship (Required for CBP and government positions)
  • Must have the ability to obtain a CBP Public Trust clearance.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting enterprise network engineering or network operations environments.
  • 2+ years of experience supporting network automation, configuration management, or automated deployment solutions.
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting enterprise network technologies including TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VLANs, VPNs, ACLs, and network segmentation.
  • Experience utilizing network automation or configuration management tools such as Network Automation, Cisco NSO, Ansible Automation Platform, SolarWinds NCM, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with version control tools such as Git, GitLab, or GitHub.
  • Experience supporting network troubleshooting, incident management, and change management processes within an enterprise environment.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Active security clearance required; DHS clearance or prior DHS suitability preferred.
  • Experience supporting DHS, CBP, federal government, or other mission critical network environments.
  • Experience with network monitoring, telemetry, and observability tools such as Splunk, Grafana, Prometheus, or ELK Stack.
  • Experience supporting SD-WAN technologies such as Cisco Viptela, Palo Alto Prisma, or VMware VeloCloud.
  • Experience supporting cloud networking environments including AWS VPC, Azure Virtual Network, and hybrid cloud connectivity.
  • Experience developing automation scripts using Python, PowerShell, Ansible, or similar scripting languages.
  • Experience supporting ITIL based operations, ServiceNow change management, and incident management processes.
  • Active certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, Security+, or equivalent industry certifications.

Target Salary Range
$86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
