Family Law/Divorce Attorney

Position: Family Law Attorney

Location: South Bend, IN

Salary: $100K-$125K + bonus potential based on production
Position Overview
We are seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Family Law Attorney to represent clients in a full range of family law matters, with emphasis on litigation, child custody, and divorce. The attorney will manage a caseload from initial intake through trial or settlement, provide clear legal counsel, draft pleadings and motions, and advocate for clients in negotiations, mediations, and court hearings.
Key Responsibilities

  • Represent clients in family law litigation including divorce, custody, support, visitation, and enforcement matters.
  • Manage a diverse caseload from client intake through resolution, maintaining organized files and meeting deadlines.
  • Draft and file pleadings, discovery requests, motions, settlement agreements, parenting plans, and other court documents.
  • Prepare for and conduct hearings, trials, settlement conferences, mediations, and pre-trial proceedings.
  • Advise clients on legal rights, options, and potential outcomes while providing empathetic, practical guidance on sensitive family matters.
  • Conduct legal research and stay current on state family law statutes, case law, and local court rules.
  • Negotiate settlements and facilitate alternative dispute resolution to achieve favorable and efficient outcomes when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with paralegals, investigators, financial experts, and outside counsel as needed to develop case strategy.
  • Maintain regular, professional communication with clients, opposing counsel, and the court, and handle billing and case management tasks accurately.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and admission to the state bar in good standing.
  • 3+ years of experience practicing family law with demonstrable litigation experience; trial experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience handling child custody, divorce, support, and related family law matters.
  • Excellent drafting and oral advocacy skills, including motion practice and courtroom presentation.
  • Strong negotiation and mediation skills with the ability to achieve client-focused resolutions.
  • Comfortable managing sensitive client issues with discretion, empathy, and professionalism.
  • Ability to manage a busy caseload, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with legal research tools, case management software, and standard office productivity tools.
