Job description

Position Title: Sign Language Interpreter
Location: DFAS Rome, 325 Brooks Rd, Rome, NY 13441
Services: Onsite & Virtual Interpreting (ASL, PSE, CASE, Signed English)Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide onsite and virtual interpreting for meetings, trainings, staff discussions, performance reviews, disciplinary discussions, interviews, and other DFAS events.

  • Interpret fluently between spoken English and ASL/PSE/CASE/Signed English, simultaneously and consecutively.

  • Support communication for deaf and hard-of-hearing employees during daily work activities.

  • Review event materials in advance when provided (agendas, speeches, documents).

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must hold valid certification from an approved organization such as:
    RID (NIC, CI, CT, CSC), NAD, or a recognized State Agency.

  • Demonstrated fluency in ASL, PSE, CASE, Signed English, and the reverse to spoken English.

  • Ability to provide accurate, complete, simultaneous interpretation in a wide variety of settings.

  • Familiarity with DFAS culture, terminology, and finance/accounting vocabulary.
