Job description

Position:Water Aerobics Instructor

Wage:$19.23 to $23.68 per hour (Compensation is determined based on relevant experience, skills, and qualifications, with most new hires starting between the minimum and midpoint of the posted wage range)

Hours:Part-Time, Up to 25 hours per week

Location:Tacoma Center YMCA, Tacoma, WA

As a Water Aerobics Instructor, you'll lead fun, energizing workouts that get members moving, smiling, and feeling their best in the water. You'll create a safe, welcoming environment while guiding participants through exercises that build strength, flexibility, endurance, and cardiovascular fitness. Following professional fitness standards and YMCA policies, you'll keep classes engaging, supportive, and motivating for every participant.

Qualifications:

  • Current AEA Aquatic Fitness Professional (AFP), Aqua Zumba, or Glide Fit certification.
  • Must be able to demonstrate water fitness instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • One year or more related experience preferred.
  • Previous experience working with adults in a program setting and diverse populations.
  • Must be confident in the water.
  • Must be able to pass Background and Reference checks (in accordance with the WA State Fair Chance Act).
  • Committed to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Able and willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day, and other online and in-person training as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and instruct water fitness classes in accordance with YMCA guidelines.
  • Instruct water fitness classes for a variety of skill levels.
  • Prepare lesson plans.
  • Give clear directions, cues, and demonstrations.
  • Create a safe and positive atmosphere.
  • Promote member safety and engagement.
  • Help others improve flexibility, strength, endurance, and cardiovascular conditioning.
