Job description

Overview
OVERVIEW
Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) is seeking an instructor for its online, year-long RISE (Research, Inquiry Skills and Experimentation) course for students in grades 9-12. The course instructor guides RISE students through a series of 13 on-line learning modules where students learn how to find a testable question, create a student research plan, and conduct an in-depth study of a science topic of their choice. This course gives students the opportunity to participate in the community of scientific research and scholarship. Students are expected to utilize their work from this program to enter various science symposia.
This is a part-time, 10-month, exempt position. This position will be completed remotely and the course is mostly asynchronous. Expected hours will vary by the number of enrolled students, but typically be 15-20 hours/week for a cohort of approximately 20 students. This position will begin in August 2026, with the actual course beginning in September. Courses run from late September through the end of May each year.
The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) is committed to an equitable, diverse and inclusive teaching and learning environment. Through a model of Equity and Excellence, IMSA has committed to advancing equity in STEM education and representation and creating a diverse, inclusive community of global citizens who can realize their full potential, and execute our mission to advance the human condition.
This Equity and Excellence Model is the intentional integration of Cultural Competence, Diversity, Equity, Equity-Minded Frame, Excellence and Inclusion into every facet of the Academy, with the understanding that it is an active and ongoing process involving structures, processes and people and not an isolated initiative.
