The Instructional Design Specialist plays a key role in designing, developing, and refining engaging learning experiences that support Nestle USA's people, capability, and business priorities. Working as part of the Learning & Organizational Development (L&OD) team, you will apply adult learning principles and instructional design methodology to build instructor-led, virtual, and eLearning content that is accessible, effective, and aligned to business objectives.

You will partner closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), L&OD colleagues, functional teams, and enterprise LMS administrators to translate learning needs into interactive, learner-centered solutions delivered through the GROW LMS and future Learning Experience Platform (LXP).

This role reports to the Sr. Manager, L&OD and is based in Arlington, VA or Solon, OH.

Key Responsibilities

Instructional Design & Development:

  • Design and develop instructor-led, virtual, blended, and eLearning content using sound instructional design methodology and adult learning principles.
  • Collaborate with SMEs to identify learning objectives, define outcomes, analyze target audiences and job tasks, and organize complex content into clear, engaging learning experiences.
  • Storyboard, script, and build digital learning assets-including videos, interactive modules, simulations, job aids, participant guides, and facilitator guides-that address multiple learning styles and are accessible to all learners.
  • Develop Level 1 and Level 2 assessments to measure learner reaction and knowledge, and refine content based on evaluation data.
  • Conduct quality reviews of deliverables for instructional soundness, accuracy, brand alignment, and accessibility standards.

Learning Delivery & LMS Support:

  • Load, test, and maintain course content within the LMS, including SCORM/AICC packages, curriculums, assignments, and assessments.
  • Manage user-acceptance testing (UAT) for newly introduced or modified learning content.
  • Partner with LMS administrators to troubleshoot content-related issues and support compliance and audit reporting needs.

Collaboration & Project Work:

  • Manage multiple instructional design projects simultaneously-developing project plans, timelines, and deliverables while working within defined budgets.
  • Support the rollout of new learning programs, LMS enhancements, and process improvements aligned with L&OD priorities and Community of Practice.
  • Contribute to the design and content development for the enterprise Learning Experience Platform (LXP) rollout.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to facilitators, trainers, and content owners on instructional design best practices.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the L&OD function.

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Adult Learning, or a related field-or equivalent work experience.
  • 2+ years of instructional design experience with responsibility for end-to-end creation of instructor-led and/or eLearning materials in a corporate or education environment.
  • Demonstrated experience applying instructional design frameworks and adult learning principles.
  • Working knowledge of Learning Management Systems (uploading SCORM/AICC content, testing, light troubleshooting).
  • Proficiency in eLearning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate 360, Adobe Captivate) and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).

Preferred

  • Experience with graphic/multimedia tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) and video/animation development.
  • Familiarity with SCORM/AICC standards, accessibility best practices, and Kirkpatrick evaluation methodology.
  • Instructional design experience in a large, multi-site corporate environment (e.g., corporate offices, manufacturing/distribution).

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong project and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple deliverables and meet deadlines.
  • Creative problem-solving skills with an eye for engaging, learner-centered design.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex content into clear learning experiences for diverse audiences.
