Position Title: Hospitalist Advanced Practice Provider (APP)

Location: Valley Center Tower, Intermountain Medical Center (In person)

Department: Hospital Level Care at Home

Position Type: Day

Work Schedule:

Job Description Summary

We are a rapidly expanding team of Hospitalist physicians and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) dedicated to clinical excellence, quality improvement, and delivering high value care to hospitalized patients. Our mission is to ensure patients receive the highest quality care in a collaborative, patient centered, and cost-effective manner.

The Hospitalist Program is seeking a skilled and motivated Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our team in a hybrid role supporting both Intermountain Medical Center and our telehealth hub in Murray, Utah. This position combines in‑person hospital‑based care with innovative virtual care delivery.

In this role, you will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of hospitalist physicians, nurses, case managers, pharmacists, and other care team members to manage hospitalized patients and support high‑quality inpatient care. The ideal candidate is clinically confident, adaptable, and comfortable managing a broad range of inpatient medical conditions in both in‑person and virtual settings.

This position offers a unique opportunity to practice at the intersection of traditional inpatient medicine and innovative virtual care models, including Telehospitalist services and Hospital at Home support. Through this work, you will help extend Intermountain Health's hospital‑level care to patients across the system—including those receiving care in the comfort of their own homes—while supporting safe, efficient, and patient‑centered care delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive clinical care for hospitalized patients at Intermountain Medical Center and through telehealth services, including admissions, daily rounds, and ongoing inpatient management in accordance with established protocols and scope of practice
  • Evaluate and manage patients experiencing changes in clinical status, escalating care appropriately based on acuity and clinical judgment
  • Deliver telehealth hospitalist services, including virtual cross‑coverage support and real‑time consultation for care‑related questions
  • Accurately and timely document clinical encounters, assessments, and plans of care in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support clinical workflows that enhance patient safety, efficiency, and care standardization
  • Maintain effective communication to ensure continuity of care and safe patient handoffs
  • Adhere to institutional policies, clinical guidelines, and regulatory requirements across both in‑person and virtual care environments

Qualifications/Required Experience

  • Current, unrestricted Advanced Practice Provider licensure in the state of Utah (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) or ability to obtain prior to start date
  • National board certification as an NP (ACNP, AGACNP, FNP with inpatient experience) or PA‑C
  • Minimum of 2 years of inpatient hospitalist or acute care experience required; strong consideration given to candidates with telehealth experience. Due to the proficiency and independent practice required for this role, candidates who have not yet graduated or new APPs without the required experience will not be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently assess, diagnose, and manage acutely ill hospitalized patients within established scope of practice
  • Experience with or interest in Hospital at Home or alternative care models preferred
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR); experience with enterprise inpatient EMRs strongly preferred
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining close communication with supervising and collaborating physicians
  • Commitment to quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practice
  • BLS and ACLS certification required (or ability to obtain prior to start date)
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout patient care areas for extended periods during overnight shifts
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods while providing telehealth services and completing electronic documentation
  • Ability to perform physical assessments of hospitalized patients, including but not limited to auscultation, palpation, and visual inspection
  • Ability to occasionally lift, push, pull, or assist with moving patients or equipment, typically up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, and position self as necessary to perform patient examinations and clinical procedures within scope of practice
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate medical equipment, computers, and telehealth technology
  • Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to assess patient conditions, review electronic medical records, and communicate effectively with patients and care teams
  • Ability to work overnight shifts and respond promptly to urgent clinical situations in both in‑person and virtual care settings
