This role is especially valuable for small to mid-sized companies that may not have the resources for a full-time CIO but still need expert advice on technology planning and management.

What does a Virtual CIO do?

A virtual CIO acts as a chief information officer of a business. They often work for consulting firms that specialize in providing executive level guidance for IT. Many companies turn to a virtual CIO to replace an expert staff member, while a growing business may outsource the role until they can develop or hire the right talent.
