Position Overview
We are seeking a results-driven Civil Litigation Attorney to join our firms litigation team. The successful candidate will manage a diverse civil caseload, develop and execute litigation strategy, counsel clients, and represent them in hearings, arbitrations, and trials. This role emphasizes strong defense experience and practical courtroom skills, while maintaining high ethical standards and client service.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a full docket of civil litigation matters from intake through resolution, including discovery, motions, settlement negotiations, ADR and trial preparation.
- Develop case strategy and advise clients on legal risks, likely outcomes, and cost-effective approaches to resolution.
- Draft and file pleadings, motions, briefs, settlement agreements, and other litigation documents with clarity and persuasive legal argument.
- Conduct and respond to written discovery, prepare and defend depositions, and examine witnesses at hearings and trial.
- Represent clients at court hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and jury and bench trials; present oral arguments and handle evidentiary matters.
- Coordinate with expert witnesses, investigators, and third-party vendors to build cases and support defenses.
- Maintain organized case files, track deadlines, and manage billing and litigation budgets to meet firm and client expectations.
- Collaborate with partners and associate attorneys; mentor junior staff and support professional development within the litigation team.
- Ensure compliance with court rules, procedural requirements, and professional ethics at all times.
- Participate in business development activities, including client presentations, proposals, and maintaining client relationships.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active admission to the state bar in good standing.
- 3+ years of civil litigation experience required; 5+ years preferred for senior-level candidates, with proven trial and courtroom experience.
- Demonstrated experience defending clients in civil matters (insurance defense, commercial litigation, tort, contract disputes preferred).
- Strong knowledge of civil procedure, evidence, dispositive motion practice, and discovery rules.
- Excellent legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills with a record of drafting persuasive pleadings and briefs.
- Proven negotiation skills and experience resolving disputes through mediation and settlement when appropriate.
- Ability to manage a high-volume caseload, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently and collaboratively.
- Familiarity with litigation support tools and case management software; proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
- High professional standards, client-focused communication skills, and the ability to cultivate and maintain client trust.
