Working Hours and/or Working Conditions: WORKING CONDITIONS: Primarily on-campus with occasional virtual assistance. No travel is required beyond campus locations.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to sit for extended periods, use a computer, and communicate effectively in person and online.HOURS: Work hours shall not exceed 20 hours per week for clerical positions. Hours are based on college work-study funding and may not conflict with class schedules. Position terminates at the end of the semester or when the award is exhausted.

Job Function
The College Work-Study Financial Aid Student Assistant supports the Financial Aid Office at Macomb Community College by assisting students and parents with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and creating Federal Student Aid Identification (FSA ID) accounts. This position ensures accessibility through both in-person and virtual assistance, promoting financial literacy and providing excellent customer service to the college community. Additionally, the role includes administrative tasks such as document preparation, data entry, and maintaining accurate, confidential records in compliance with regulations.

- a current student at Macomb Community College taking AT LEAST 6 credit hours.
- currently have a work-study award given by Financial Aid - If you have not received an award or are not sure, fill out and submit

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance to students and parents in completing FAFSA applications accurately and on time
  • Explain sections of the FAFSA form, including income, household, and asset details.
  • Assist individuals in creating and managing FSA ID accounts, emphasizing security and proper use
  • Conduct in-person sessions on campus and offer virtual support via email, chat, or video conferencing
  • Maintain accurate records of interactions while ensuring confidentiality and compliance with privacy regulations
  • Stay informed about updates to FAFSA procedures and participate in training sessions as required
  • Deliver excellent customer service by addressing inquiries and concerns professionally.
  • Collaborate with Financial Aid Office staff to resolve complex cases and share best practices
  • Promote financial literacy resources to students for responsible financial decision-making
  • Prepare incoming document for scanning (internal and external mail); link documents within the ImageNow system
  • Perform data entry functions in the Colleague system for incoming documents/forms and related processes

Education
Must be a current Macomb Community College student working toward a degree.
Qualifications
Familiarity with the FAFSA application process preferred. Previous customer service or administrative experience is a plus.
