Job description

JOB TITLE: Virtual High School Teacher
DUTY DAYS: 187 Days
PAY GRADE: T07/T08

Primary Purpose




Virtual High School Instructor/Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging instruction to high school students in an online environment, ensuring academic success, fostering a positive learning culture, and meeting curriculum and safety standards.

Qualifications
Education/Certification 

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university 

  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and grade level (grades 9-12 for high school courses) 

  • ESL Certification required for ELA/Reading or the ability to obtain within one year if not already held 

  • Training: Knowledge of virtual instruction delivery and assessment; completion of Pasadena ISD Virtual Teacher Training, Online Instructor certification or other approved online course development/management training. 

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of instructional pedagogy for online instruction  

  • Ability to instruct, supervise, and manage students in an online and virtual setting 

  • Proficiency in online learning management systems   

  • Strong organizational, communication, classroom management, and interpersonal skills 

  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and handle varied workloads 

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate on group projects and work as part of a team 

Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instruction & Curriculum Development: 

  • Develop and deliver lesson plans aligned with established curriculum guidelines, using appropriate online teaching strategies  

  • Create and adapt curriculum to meet diverse student needs, including differentiated instruction  

  • Record and post lessons, and update course materials as needed 

Student Support & Engagement:

  • Facilitate virtual classes, manage online discussion boards, and encourage student participation  

  • Provide academic support via email, video calls, or other digital communication channels  

  • Monitor student progress in virtual classrooms and other assigned areas  

  • Provide instructional tutoring as needed 

Assessment & Feedback:

  • Administer and develop subject-specific assessments to measure competency and inform individual learning plans  

  • Grade assignments, tests, and quizzes; provide timely, constructive feedback  

Communication & Collaboration:

  • Maintain regular communication with students, parents, and guardians about academic performance and goals  

  • Collaborate with instructional staff, administrators, and community resources to improve student outcomes 

  • Collaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environment for students by participating in activities which include, but are not limited to, team teaching, meetings, staff development, communities of practice and various committees 

Behavior & Safety:

  • Manage student behavior to maintain a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment  

  • Adhere to institutional policies, privacy laws, and online safety protocols  

Professional Development:

  • Participate in professional development, meetings, and training to enhance teaching skills and stay current with online education trends 

Digital Citizenship and Ethical Technology Use:

  • Model responsible use of technology and AI tools 

  • Teaches students digital safety, privacy, and source evaluation
