Job description

AdaptiveStack Technologies is seeking a Network Administrator to support The Department of Energy (DOE).


At Adaptivestack Technologies, a Network Administrator must have experience in managing, monitoring and configuring the routine operations and maintenance of computer systems in a variety of different networks to include high volume/high availability systems. Must have experience responding and resolving problems quickly. Must have the skills to implement agency policy regarding computer access and implement firewalls. Under the supervision of a Sr. Network Administrator.

The Network Administrator will support IT programs at a Department of Energy plant that performs missions vital to national security. This is an onsite position working in Oak Ridge, TN. They will plan, implement, and operate network services/systems, to include hardware and virtual environments.

Responsibilities:
  • Configure and optimize network hubs, routers, and switches (e.g., higher-level protocols, tunneling).
  • Develop and implement network backup and recovery procedures, diagnose network connectivity problem install and maintain network infrastructure device operating system software (e.g., IOS, firmware).
  • Monitors the assigned network, ensuring optimal function and minimal downtime.
  • Monitors and analyzes network load including traffic and utilization trends.
  • Ensures networks are protected from physical harm, viruses, unauthorized users, and damage to data by developing and monitoring security procedures or collaborating with network security staff.
  • Drafts checklists, processes, and support trees, and knowledge bases for help desk and other support staff.
  • Thorough understanding of networking protocols, LAN /VLAN networking, and WAN networking.
  • Configure network switches, interfaces, VPNs and cable management.
Required Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field with 2 to 5 years of related experience or Associates degree in a technical field and 5+ years of related experience. Requires general knowledge and understanding in area of expertise and associated equipment, processes or systems. 3-5 Years of experience may be substituted with an advanced degree.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required per contract to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy Q clearance.
  • Experience in Cisco networking – Route/Switch
  • Experience in Layer 1 cable infrastructure
  • Experience in Cable tracing.
  • Experience in Diagramming network as-is.
  • Experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio
  • Project Management experience is a plus.
  • Technical troubleshooting and performance tuning experience.
  • Strong data analysis skills.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office suite required, including MS Visio.
  • Candidates must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong aptitude to learn and adapt to technology.
  • Ability to adapt well to diverse environments.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with all levels in an organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in dynamic team environment.
