Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking a vigilant, professional Security Guard to safeguard our cannabis facility, products, and staff. Operating in a federally regulated and highly scrutinized industry, this role requires an individual who blends strong observation and de-escalation skills with strict regulatory compliance. The Security Guard serves as the first point of contact for visitors and personnel entering the facility, ensuring all activity on-site adheres to state cannabis regulations, company policy, and applicable laws.

Key ResponsibilitiesAccess Control & ID Verification

• Verify government-issued ID and applicable credentials for every employee, contractor, vendor, and visitor prior to entry, ensuring only authorized individuals access the facility.

• Monitor and control access at all entry points, including employee, vendor, and delivery entrances.

• Maintain accurate visitor logs and ensure all non-employees are properly badged and escorted as required.

• Detect and prevent fraudulent identification using approved verification tools and techniques.

Facility & Asset Protection

• Conduct routine interior and exterior patrols of the cultivation, processing, or distribution facility to deter theft, diversion, and unauthorized access.

• Monitor CCTV, alarm systems, and access control technology; respond promptly to alerts, alarms, and suspicious activity.

• Secure all restricted areas including vaults, safes, cultivation rooms, and product storage in accordance with state-mandated chain-of-custody protocols.

• Observe and report any signs of tampering, theft, or diversion of cannabis products, cash, or company property.

Staff & Visitor Safety

• Provide a calm, professional presence for employees, contractors, and authorized visitors.

• De-escalate confrontations, manage disorderly individuals, and respond appropriately to medical emergencies, fires, or other incidents.

• Manage access flow during shift changes, scheduled deliveries, and high-activity operational periods.

• Escort employees handling cash deposits or product transfers between vehicles, vaults, or armored carriers.

Compliance & Reporting

• Enforce all state and local cannabis regulations governing on-site conduct, restricted area access, and loitering.

• Document and report all incidents, accidents, policy violations, and suspicious activity in written reports within required timeframes.

• Maintain familiarity with state cannabis control board rules, seed-to-sale tracking requirements, and company SOPs.

• Cooperate with law enforcement, regulators, and inspectors during audits, investigations, and emergencies as directed by management.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 21 years of age, as required by state cannabis regulations.

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Valid state-issued security guard license (e.g., armed or unarmed, as applicable to the role and jurisdiction).

• Ability to pass a comprehensive background check, including fingerprinting, in accordance with state cannabis licensing requirements.

• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a state-issued cannabis worker permit, agent card, or equivalent credential.

• 1+ years of experience in security, law enforcement, military, loss prevention, or a related field.

• Working knowledge of CCTV monitoring, access control systems, and incident reporting procedures.

• Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods, and to lift up to 50 pounds when needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in the cannabis industry or other cash-intensive, high-compliance environment (e.g., banking, jewelry, pharmacy).

• Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.

• Formal de-escalation, crisis intervention, or conflict resolution training.

• Familiarity with state seed-to-sale tracking platforms (e.g., METRC, BioTrack).
