Position Overview:
The Project Engineer provides essential support to Project Managers by assisting with communication, scheduling, cost tracking, document control, and forecasting. This role collaborates with superintendents, forepersons, engineers, detailers, and management teams to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, safely, and within budget. We lead with integrity, transparency, and accountability, put people first through collaboration and inclusivity, deliver client-focused value, and drive growth through innovation and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with bid preparation and procurement of new projects.
  • Support estimating and negotiation of change orders with clarity and professionalism.
  • Track, forecast, and report labor hours and material costs to support accurate, transparent, and financially aligned projects.
  • Assist with purchasing major equipment and subcontract agreements, reinforcing UMC's commitment to quality and reliable delivery.
  • Monitor and expedite delivery of equipment and materials to support project schedules and predictable field outcomes.
  • Maintain working knowledge of project scope, specifications, and contract requirements with a focus on accuracy, accountability, and ownership.
  • Ensure document control compliance with company standards and contractual obligations, demonstrating precision and respect for process.
  • Collaborate with field teams to plan, organize, and schedule project work, including integrated project schedules, supporting teamwork and clear communication.
  • Review contract drawings, detail drawings, and specifications.
  • Prepare fabrication shop work packages, including material take-offs, buyouts, and man-hour budgets.
  • Support compliance with company safety programs at job sites, recognizing safety as a shared responsibility and core value.
  • Maintain consistent and punctual attendance as an essential job function in support of team and client needs.
  • Utilize project management and design software, including MS Office Suite, Bluebeam, Smartsheet, OneDrive, MS Teams, SharePoint, BIM360, Viewpoint Team, Viewpoint Vista, and Revit.

Secondary Responsibilities:
  • Maintain positive client relationships through professionalism, responsiveness, and a customer-focused approach.
  • Continue developing knowledge of mechanical systems, engineering, estimating, construction practices, and financial management, demonstrating growth, initiative, and commitment to continuous improvement.

Position Requirements

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Chemical Engineering preferred.
  • 0-2 years of experience in construction management, mechanical engineering, or related field preferred.

Required Licensing and Other Certifications:
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
