Job description

The Opportunity:
CNET Group is seeking a highly skilled, versatile Video Producer and visual storyteller to join the video team. This role is designed for a true creator who excels at the creative, storytelling and technical execution of premium digital video.
Based in New York, you will work directly alongside the Executive Producers of our CNET, PCMag, and Mashable studios. Your primary focus will be the end-to-end production of high-impact content that maintains our position as the world’s leading tech news and reviews authority.

The ideal candidate can take a concept and turn it into a well-crafted video.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Editorial Storytelling: Research, pitch, and write compelling, story-driven video content, taking full ownership of the editorial voice and narrative arc from concept to final cut.
  • Content Development: Transform complex topics and research into engaging, journalistically sound video treatments and scripts that resonate with our target audience.
  • Series Development & Collaboration: Work closely with the Executive Producers at CNET, PCMag, and Mashable to bring established series and new formats to life.
  • Production Management: Set up complex field and studio shoots, including 3-point lighting, audio capture, and camera operation (A-roll and B-roll).
  • Post-Production Mastery: Edit under tight deadlines, including "day-of" turns for news cycles, while maintaining high-quality color grading and sound design.
  • Talent Direction: Provide clear on-set direction to on-camera talent to ensure performances align with the visual goals of the projects.

Job Qualifications:
  • 5-10+ years of professional video production. You must be a "one-man band" capable of handling a project from setup through final export.
  • Expert-level background with mirrorless cameras and cinema rigs. You should be equally comfortable shooting tech products in a controlled studio environment or capturing live events in the field.
  • Advanced knowledge of 3-point lighting and field audio recording.
  • Mastery of Adobe Premiere Pro is required. Proficiency in Photoshop and After Effects is a significant plus.
  • Deep understanding of technical requirements for YouTube, social video (vertical and horizontal), and web-native players.
  • Ability to pivot between multiple projects and brands (CNET, Mashable, PCMag) without sacrificing quality.
  • A proactive communicator who can work with Executive Producers to flag roadblocks and hit aggressive delivery timelines.
  • Based in New York with the ability to travel for events and work occasional off-hours for breaking news or product launches.

No applications will be considered without a demo reel or portfolio of work. Please include a description of the roles you played in each video’s creation and production process.
