Job description

MGS has an exciting opportunity for a Production Manager to join our MGS Richfield Manufacturing team.

As a Production Manager at MGS, you will be responsible for managing all corporate projects and correspondence with customers and plant management for MGS Richfield.

Below are additional duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead a 24 hour / 7 day a week / 4 shift production team, ensuring adequate staffing levels, managing holiday allowances, training, development, performance evaluations, attendance, employee relation concerns, and daily supervision to maximize efficient productivity.
  • Effectively and efficiently manage the production of the required daily/weekly/monthly targets in line with customer specifications, meeting quality and delivery expectations, minimizing costs where possible and ensure the required best working practices are maintained at all times.
  • Responsible for plant production, meeting customer requirements and maintaining a clean, orderly, and productive operation of planned activities.
  • Full accountability for ensuring safety, customer quality, cost and delivery requirements are met with a people focus.
    • Effectively communicate all activities regarding the various production jobs including any concerns, workmanship, and products not meeting the Company's and Customer's expectations.
  • Responsible for developing an enthusiastic, motivated, and flexible team by building working relationships.
  • Manages, mentors, and leads the teams on best practices and establishes standard policies and procedures across the four shifts.
  • Implements and manages continuous improvement and modern manufacturing principals by highlighting deficiencies and recommending changes in training, working practices, and processes.
  • Owns and leads onboarding programs and career development paths to focus on skill development to attract, develop, and retain employees at MGS Richfield Manufacturing facility while maintaining consistency across the 4 shifts.
  • Develop and maintain a plan to improve employee retention and reduce turnover rate.
  • Ensure that production operates in accordance with any health, safety, environmental, and Company policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors.
  • Minimize downtime and increase operating efficiencies by setting productivity expectations for the production staff.
  • Ability to lead teams using lean manufacturing, problem solving, and six sigma tools to reduce scrap, increase productivity and eliminate quality and safety issues.
    • Manage, coach, and develop a high performing manufacturing team that meets agreed objectives, and which delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements.
    • Set department objectives/KPI's and review and assess ongoing performance of direct reports.
  • Consistently promote high standards through personal example and roll out through the team so that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviors expected of them.
  • Organize, define, implement, and participate in monthly shift meeting to ensure employees are kept up to date with any changes within the facility, including, but not limited to safety, customers, how the plant is doing, human resources, and training needs.
  • Oversee and ensure time and attendance is done accurately and timely. If necessary, investigate gaps and perform as the backup for your team.
  • Own, lead, and oversee the development, implementation, and ongoing support of Onboarding programs, Career development plans, and any associated training(s). Coordinates and handles any updated training requirements per the quality system to ensure it is completed timely and consistently across the shifts.
    • Evaluate team to identify any skill gaps and develop plans to address any gaps identified.
    • Supports the performance evaluation process ensuring performance evaluation are completed accurately, timely, and effectively setting SMART goals that contribute to the goals of the overall plant and production department and holding employees accountable to the goals set.
    • Holds employees accountable to the Company's overall policies and procedure, job requirements, and MGS's Core values and when needed, complete and process Performance Incident Reports or Performance Improvement Plans in conjunction with Human Resources.
  • Work as part of the Richfield Plant Management team to share ideas and improve operation, recommending, supporting, and implementing continuous improvement activities and process and procedure improvements to optimize results and improve quality of delivery, in line with quality standards requirements delivery in line with Company and Customer requirements.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance.
  • Support, comply, and ensure complicity with Health & Safety regulations, the Company Handbook, Quality and Environmental standards, and all other Company policies and procedures.
  • Stay current on new and/or updated technology, manufacturing practices and processes related to the overall purpose of the role.
  • Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review and communicate the impact on Manufacturing activities.
  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice manufacturing vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to aid and improve operational performance.
  • Assess, report, and ensure the timely repair of any safety incidents and/or hazards on the production floor.
  • Continuously improve efficiency and accuracy in the production process and ensure compliance as it relates to ISO/GMP Standards.
  • Works with team to identify root cause of defects and ensure implementation of corrective actions to address quality concerns on the production floor.
  • Observes, communicates, enforces, and leads by example for all Company policies, procedures, and safety regulations. Ensure that MGS's Core Values remains your team's highest priority.
  • Continually assessing the pulse of the production floor to help maintain a connection with employees across the 4 shifts, obtain feedback, identify Employee engagement opportunities, reduce turnover, and boost productivity. Develop actions plans to improve any gaps. The Production Manager should know what is going on, formally and informally.
  • Effective communication and coordination with Human Resource Department in regard to payroll, time and attendance, and employee relations.
  • Participate in the hire, evaluation, and selection of candidates for your team following the New Hire Requisition and interview process working with Human Resources.
  • Responsible for achieving budget and forecast to planned activities for Richfield Molding production.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

A qualified Production Manager candidate would fulfill these requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Operations Management or related field is preferred.
  • At least seven years of previous experience in a plastic injection molding environment and experience in secondary processes is preferred.
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills.
  • Strong team building, decision making, and planning skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem solving, and project management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to manage a variety of cross-function team members.

  • Ability to create accountability and lead by example.
  • Previous experience/understanding of management principles (budgeting/expense management, strategic planning, resource allocation and human resources).
  • Expertise within the plastics industry in terms of standards, processes, procedures and equipment is preferred.
  • Knowledge in FDA and ISO/QS/TS Quality Systems is preferred.
