Deer Valley Resort is nestled in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah, in the historic mining town of Park City which has evolved into an exciting and diverse mountain ski town. Our staff consists of locals, transplants, seasonal workers from all 50 states and international students from around the globe. PURPOSE OF POSITION:The VP of Finance leads the resort Finance function and serves as the primary financial strategist and business partner to the Resort President and Senior Leadership Team. The role is accountable for connecting financial insight to operational action, supporting resort profitability, strengthening forecast discipline, and ensuring financial decisions align with resort priorities, regional direction, and enterprise expectations.
The VP of Finance reports directly to the Resort President andmaintainsFinance functional accountability to the Regional VP of Finance for finance standards, forecasting cadence, risks and opportunities, regional performance narrative, benchmarking,capitalplanning expectations, process discipline, and finance talent development.
The role is expected to move the resort Finance function beyond reporting results by helpingidentifyroot causes, frame options, support decisions, and drive measurable action plans. The VP of Finance should ensure Finance informs and challenges business decisions.
The VP of Finance leads finance team members who support day-to-day financial operations, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, analysis, and business partnership across resort operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Finance Leadership & Business Partnership
Serve as the primarystrategic Finance advisorandpartnerto the Resort President and Senior Leadership Team,providingfinancialleadership, businessinsight,andoperational contextto drive profitability, support enterprise priorities, and improve overall resortperformance
Lead the development and execution of the resort's financial strategy, partnering with regional and corporate Finance leaders to align planning, forecasting,capitalinvestment, performance management, and long-term financialobjectiveswith region and enterprise expectations
Translate financial results and operationsdatainto actionable business recommendations byidentifyingperformance drivers, evaluating risks and opportunities, informing key decisions, and ensuring clear accountability for measurable outcomes and sustained business improvement.
Business Planning & Performance Management
Serve as the resort Finance lead for financial performance management, ensuring results, forecasts, risks, and opportunities are clearly understood and connected to measurable action plans.
Partner with resort leaders and enterprise stakeholders toevaluatestrategic initiatives, investments, operating model changes, and to support long-range planning, annual planning, major investment decisions, new revenue opportunities, partnerships, guest experience investments, and operating model changes by assessing financial return, risk, labor impact,capitalrequirements, and long-term enterprise value.
Translate resort, operation, and commercialobjectivesinto financialtargets, performance metrics, and decision-support frameworks that enable informed business planning while reinforcing accountability among functional leaders for execution and results
Forecasting, Risks & Opportunities, and Business Performance
Lead the resort forecasting process in partnership withresort, regional, andcorporateleadership and supportmonthly and in-season business reviews with analysis that leads to decisions, owners, timelines, and measurable outcomes.
Own the resort risks and opportunities process, ensuring financial impacts are clearly quantified, tied to operational drivers, and supported by actionable mitigation orcapture plans.
Develop clear financial narratives for monthly business reviews, forecasts, annual planning, long-range planning, and other regional or enterprise review forums.
Partner with the Regional VP of Finance toidentifycross-resort trends, performance gaps, benchmarking insights, and opportunities that may have broader regional or enterprise application.
Capital&InvestmentStrategy
Lead long-termcapitalplanning oversight for the resort, ensuring alignment between development projects, maintenancecapital, operationalcapitalinvestment, return expectations, and long-term financial strategy.
Provide financial oversight for investment return diligence, including assessment of risks, opportunities, strategic rationale, financial return, operating impact, guest impact, and labor implications.
Support development of business cases that clearlyidentifystrategic rationale, financial return, operating impact, guest impact, labor implications, and riskswhile partneringwith the Regional VP of Finance to ensure capital requests are evaluated consistently across the region and aligned with regional and enterprise capital planning expectations.
Partner with theFinanceTeamtomonitorresort maintenancecapital, assess largecapitalrequests, and track post-approval performance of majorcapitalinvestments against original business case assumptions.
Collaborate with corporate development, real estate, treasury, accounting, shared services, and other enterprise partners on resort development projects, acquisitions, new builds, expansion opportunities, and major strategic initiatives.
Financial Governance, Risk & Compliance Oversight
Oversee financial governance, internal controls, and regulatory compliance across resort financial operations.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, SOX, corporate financial policies, and all applicable regulatory financial standards.
Reinforce standard Finance and Accounting processes, ensuring the resort does not rely on informal workarounds or relationship-based exceptions.
Develop workingcapitaloptimization strategies in coordination with Corporate Treasury.
Leadership and Operating Model Expectations
Help shift Finance from reactionary reporting to proactive business partnership that is structured, prioritized, and connected to measurable business outcomes.
Support meeting discipline by helpingidentifydecisions, owners, due dates, risks, dependencies, and communication needs.
Reinforce clear decision rights between the Resort President, SLT leaders, Finance, Regional Finance, and corporate partners.
Create trust-based accountability through clear expectations, policies, guardrails, follow-up, and measurable outcomes.
Develop thefinance and analyst teamsinto stronger business partners with operational curiosity, root cause orientation, and action-based support.
Owner, HOA & Lodging Financial Support
Support Lodging and resort leadership with financial analysis, reporting, controls, and transparency related to owner, HOA, and lodging-managed services, asappropriate.
Partner with Lodging, Accounting, Shared Services, and other stakeholders to ensure HOA-related financial activity is managed in alignment with applicable agreements, reporting expectations, and enterprise standards.
Provide financial support for owner- or HOA-related matters where they intersect with resort financial planning, risk assessment, or enterprise reporting.
Corporate & Executive Financial Collaboration
Serve as the primary resort Finance partner to the Regional VP of Finance, Corporate FP&A, Accounting, Treasury, Development, Shared Services, auditors, and regulatory authorities.
Partner with the Regional VP of Finance on regional performance reviews, benchmarking, financial storytelling, and escalation of resort-level risks and opportunities.
Ensure the Resort President and SLT understand regional and enterprise Finance expectations.
Help translate corporate and regional Finance direction into practical resort-level actions.
Work with Alterra's corporate finance, development, real estate, treasury, accounting, and shared services teams on financial planning, reporting, funding strategies, and strategic initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS&EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field. MBA, CPA, or equivalent experience preferred.
5+ years of progressive financial leadership experience(10+ years overall)in hospitality, resort operations, real estate development, or a similarly complex operating environment.
Demonstrated ability to serve as a strategic business partner to senior operating leaders and translate financial results into business actions.
Proven ability to lead financial strategy, forecasting, risks and opportunities,capitalplanning, investment analysis, and operational action planning.
Demonstrated ability tooperatein a matrixed environment with accountability to both resort leadership and regional / corporate Finance leadership.
Strong ability to influence operating leaders and support decision-making without overstepping functional ownership.
Experience building financial narratives,capitalbusiness cases, ROI analysis, benchmarking insights, and measurable action plans.
Experience working with ownership groups, corporate finance teams, real estate partners, shared service teams, and external stakeholders.
