The Vice President, Transportation is responsible for leading the strategic direction, operational performance, and financial results of GXO’s transportation business. This executive role drives transportation excellence through the development and execution of scalable network strategies, customer-focused solutions, operational innovation, and disciplined cost management. The position partners closely with business leaders, customers, commercial teams, and functional stakeholders to optimize transportation services, maximize profitability, strengthen customer relationships, and support GXO's long-term growth objectives. The Vice President serves as a key member of the senior leadership team and is accountable for delivering safe, compliant, efficient, and customer-centric transportation operations.

This role operates across a complex transportation network consisting of dedicated fleet operations, brokerage services, carrier management programs, transportation management solutions, and customer supply chain partnerships. The position supports large-scale transportation operations with responsibility for multiple regions, customer portfolios, operating locations, and transportation service offerings.

 

Position is hybrid based out of our GXO office in Fort Lauderdale FL, Irving TX, or High Point NC.

What you'll do on a typical day:

  • Develop and execute the overall transportation strategy, ensuring alignment with GXO’s business objectives, customer requirements, and growth initiatives.
  • Lead all transportation operations, including fleet, brokerage, carrier management, network optimization, transportation management systems, and customer transportation solutions
  • Deliver financial performance through revenue growth, cost optimization, productivity improvements, margin expansion, and operational efficiency initiatives
  • Responsible for significant transportation revenue, operating budgets, customer portfolios, and profitability outcomes
  • Build and maintain executive-level customer relationships, partnership with customers to develop innovative transportation solutions and support business development opportunities.
  • Drive operational excellence through performance metrics, technology adoption, process standardization, continuous improvement, and transportation best practices
  • Lead, develop, and coach a high-performing leadership team while strengthening succession plans and organizational capability
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, safety, risk management, environmental, and governance requirements across transportation operations

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Transportation, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field required.
  • Master's degree (MBA or equivalent) preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as CSCMP, CLTD, CPSM, Six Sigma, Lean, or equivalent highly preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience within transportation, logistics, supply chain, fleet management, brokerage, or related industries.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex, multi-site transportation operations with significant P&L responsibility.
  • Strong background in transportation network design, carrier management, dedicated fleet operations, transportation technology, and operational excellence.
  • Proven experience managing executive customer relationships and delivering profitable growth strategies.
  • Experience leading large organizations through change and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of transportation compliance, regulatory requirements, and safety management practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of transportation management systems (TMS), transportation optimization tools, supply chain analytics, fleet operations, carrier procurement, and transportation economics.
  • Expert understanding of transportation regulations, DOT compliance, safety programs, labor considerations, and risk management.
  • Strong financial acumen with expertise in budgeting, forecasting, pricing strategies, contract negotiations, and P&L management.
  • Advanced leadership, communication, influencing, and strategic planning capabilities.
