As a member of the Employee Benefits Claims Senior Leadership Team, the Employee Benefits Claims Assistant Vice President serves as a strategic partner to the Senior Vice President and leadership team, helping translate the organization's vision and priorities into coordinated action and measurable results. The role drives strategic planning, operating discipline, continuous improvement, and cross-functional execution bringing together leaders and partners across Employee Benefits to strengthen organizational performance, reduce variation, and advance the Claims strategy.

Reporting directly to the Employee Benefits Claims Senior Vice President, the Employee Benefits Claims Assistant Vice President is accountable for the organization's strategic and operating rhythms, the prioritization and execution of key initiatives, and the timely resolution of issues requiring leadership attention. Acting on behalf of the Senior Vice President when appropriate, this leader connects strategy, performance insights, workforce priorities, transformation efforts, and stakeholder engagement to ensure the organization delivers on its commitments and is positioned for future success.

This role is eligible for hybrid or remote work arrangements. Candidates who lives near of one of our offices, will have the expectation of working in an office three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into the office ~ four days/month.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a strategic partner to the Senior Vice President (SVP) and leadership team, setting and operationalizing vision and direction for the Employee Benefit (EB) Claims organization in alignment with the Employee Benefits and Claims strategic priorities.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within EB Claims through partnership with EB Claim leaders to develop and execute on transformation initiatives.

  • Partner with the Optimization & Transformation, Finance and Workforce Management teams to monitor and control for business impacts of investment and Continuous Improvement initiatives, ensuring a strong understanding of benefit achievement, operational, and customer impacts.

  • Effectively communicate EB Claims strategies and initiatives to stakeholders, ensuring alignment with business priorities.

  • Represent the SVP and EB Claims in customer and broker engagements as needed, effectively communicating the EB Claims story and vision.

  • Represent the SVP with internal and external partners, maintaining alignment on all relevant issues.

  • Identify opportunities, generate, develop and lead special projects that span the EB Claims line of business to drive organizational success.

  • Drive organizational performance and operational health by analyzing business and workforce insights, partnering with leaders to implement Strategic Workforce Planning strategies that evolve routines, strengthen critical capabilities, and prepare the organization for future workforce and business needs.

  • Develop and deliver compelling materials for operational and ad hoc meetings with business partners and leaders.

  • Liaison between EB Claims and functional partners including CRO, SIU, Transformation & Optimization, SEG, Compliance, Workforce Management, Operations, and other partners.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience with insurance products or relevant industry experience.

  • At least 5 years of experience leading and developing teams; demonstrated engaging leadership style.

  • Proven experience in strategic program management and operational execution.

  • Strong business acumen; ability to develop, communicate, and lead strategies and initiatives in alignment with organizational priorities.

  • Analytical mindset with experience in data analysis, identifying root causes, and executing strategic improvements.

  • High level of critical thinking, organization, and planning skills.

  • Ability to deliver outcomes while working through ambiguity and balancing multiple projects.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation abilities and executive communication and influencing skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships and influence others at all levels.

  • Strong technical proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and other relevant tools.

  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, and able to work autonomously with minimal supervision.

  • Creative problem-solving skills and ability to facilitate group meetings.

  • Willing and able to travel ~25% of the time.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$176,000 - $264,000
