Job description

This role can be located in either Tarrytown, NY or Warren, NJ.

The Vice President, Global Procurement - R&D will provide strategic leadership and direction for the R&D category while operating first and foremost as an enterprise leader who shapes how procurement creates value across Regeneron. This leader will be accountable for establishing category strategies and jointly driving value with business partners across Regeneron's R&D organization, while designing an R&D procurement function that scales with both human capability and technology-driven execution.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Chief Procurement Officer, and working closely with the Global Procurement Leadership Team and executive stakeholders in R&D, this leader will define sourcing, clinical research organization, clinical services, and lab supplies strategies while modernizing the processes, technology, and talent model that deliver them. They will prioritize the interests of Regeneron, its patients, shareholders, and people in every decision - translating supplier relationships, supply chain resilience, and sustainability into tangible, long-term competitive advantage.

In This Role, You Will

  • Act as an influential enterprise leader across senior stakeholders, leveraging critical thinking, change management, strong business acumen, and deep procurement expertise to develop strategic improvements that extend well beyond the R&D category.
  • Lead and/or participate in senior management discussions related to the R&D category, setting priorities aligned with stakeholder needs and representing Global Procurement in decisions with critical short- and long-term impact on the company.
  • Design and lead an R&D procurement function that scales with both human capability and technology-driven execution - re-engineering processes and embedding automation and intelligent tooling to free the team for higher-value work.
  • Champion the adoption and optimization of technology platforms that drive process automation, data-driven decision-making, and end-to-end visibility across the procurement lifecycle, acting as a change leader who builds buy-in and sustains adoption.
  • Lead critical negotiations, supplier management, and stakeholder engagement for the R&D category, turning supplier relationships into a true competitive differentiator through partnership and innovation.
  • Build risk and supply chain resilience into category and sourcing strategies, anticipating disruption and ensuring continuity of supply for the suppliers, services, and materials most critical to R&D.
  • Build agile, value-driving talent that keeps pace with business demands, taking accountability for development, retention, and recruiting of Global Procurement talent.
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of efficient global procurement organizations within the biopharmaceutical industry, using Regeneron's global capability center to standardize repeatable activities and optimize efficiency.
  • Exhibit role-model leadership behaviors across the organization, communicating a clear and compelling vision and driving positive change with senior executives and Regeneron's most critical suppliers.

This Role Might Be For You If You Have

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field (required); an advanced degree (MBA or similar) and/or a professional procurement certification is strongly preferred.
  • ~20 years of progressive experience in global procurement or category management, including a track record of taking on broader scope, higher-stakes categories, and larger teams at each career step - not just tenure, but demonstrated upward trajectory.
  • Direct experience leading procurement within a multi-national biopharmaceutical or life sciences organization, with working fluency in the R&D category specifically - sourcing, CRO/clinical services, and lab supplies - or in closely adjacent, comparably complex categories.
  • A demonstrated record of enterprise-level influence: examples of shaping decisions or strategy beyond procurement's own four walls, gained credibility with C-suite or senior R&D executives, and led change that stuck rather than stalled after rollout.
  • Hands-on ownership of building or substantially re-engineering a procurement function - not just using existing tools, but having redesigned processes, embedded automation or intelligent tooling, and measurably shifted team capacity toward higher-value work.
  • Command of complex, high-value negotiations and supplier relationships, with specific, quantifiable outcomes (cost savings, risk mitigated, capacity secured, innovation unlocked) rather than general negotiation experience.
  • Evidence of building supply chain resilience proactively - anticipated and managed a real disruption or continuity risk for a critical category, rather than only responding after the fact.
  • Direct people-leadership experience managing Director-level (or equivalent senior) professionals, including specific examples of developing successors and retaining high performers through organizational change.
