Join Mutual of Omaha as our Vice President of Finance and play a pivotal role in shaping the financial strength and future of our organization. In this executive leadership position, you will provide strategic direction for our Corporate Accounting function, overseeing core accounting transaction management, investment accounting, reconciliations, cash reconciliations, accounts payable, escheatment, compliance reporting, group office reporting, and financial operations in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP), and state insurance regulations. We are seeking a seasoned finance leader with deep investment accounting expertise and extensive insurance industry experience who can drive operational excellence, strengthen financial controls, ensure regulatory compliance, and provide trusted financial leadership. This is an exceptional opportunity to influence enterprise strategy, partner with executive leadership, and lead a high-performing team dedicated to delivering accurate financial information, effective governance, continuous process improvement, and exceptional service across the finance organization.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Lead the Corporate Accounting function, overseeing core accounting operations, investment accounting, reconciliations, cash reconciliations, accounts payable, escheatment, compliance reporting, and group office reporting.
  • Provides directions on the preparation and presentation of financial information and reporting.
  • Drive operational excellence through process improvements, automation, and technology solutions that enhance efficiency, scalability, and financial accuracy.
  • Partner with executive leadership to provide financial expertise, support strategic initiatives, and influence enterprise business decisions.
  • Develop and lead a high-performing team while effectively managing departmental resources, budgets, and organizational priorities.
  • Build trusted relationships with auditors, regulators, financial institutions, and key business partners to strengthen financial stewardship and organizational success.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Extensive leadership experience in corporate accounting within the insurance or financial services industry, with deep expertise in accounting operations and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of investment accounting, GAAP and statutory reporting requirements, insurance regulations, financial controls, auditing, and accounting systems.
  • Proven ability to lead complex accounting organizations, drive operational excellence, and implement process improvements, automation, and technology solutions.
  • Demonstrated success partnering with executive leadership to develop business strategies, establish performance measures, and influence key decisions impacting accounting processes and systems.
  • Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and drive business results.
  • Executive presence with outstanding communication and presentation skills, including experience presenting to senior leadership and executive committees.
  • Proven ability to build, lead, and develop high-performing teams while fostering collaboration, accountability, and strong cross-functional relationships.
