The Vice President of Construction will lead operations for KDC Construction Inc. Essential Job FunctionsOversight of Projects:
  • Provides oversight and strategic vision of all active projects.
  • Works with accounting/finance to monitor and assist with accounts receivable activities.
  • Reviews and approves travel reports, correspondence, joint check requisitions, and client/owner status reports (as required).
  • Oversees warranty items to ensure all warranty issues are being addressed promptly.
  • Oversees the review of bid jobs from a construction point of view before bidding.
  • Assigns and reviews project assignments for all team members.
  • Maintains and updates the staffing schedule.
  • Works with the Director of Estimating to prepare supervision calculations for bid and negotiated jobs and review permits, plans, specs, and schedules.
  • Visits job sites as required.
Oversight of Departmental Estimating Process:
  • Will provide oversight and strategic vision during the planning and design phase of projects
  • Ensures KDC's estimating procedures are in place and employed to capitalize on each project/opportunity fully
  • Manages group resources and applies them appropriately as projects progress through the Preconstruction process
  • Reviews and approves project budgets, estimates, group correspondence, subcontracts/purchase orders, and owner contracts
Administration:
  • Participates in monthly Project Reviews and provides all associated financial reporting
  • Will provide monthly projections for company revenues
  • Responsible for staffing projections.
  • Assists the Sr Vice President in monitoring the overhead budget
  • Reviews and approves expense reports and PTO requests
  • Reviews monthly salary allocations and costs and distributes to the necessary parties
  • Participates in bonus and salary reviews.
Business Development:
  • Aligns with Business Development and works with Business Development to develop a profitable business and long-term revenue.
  • Monitors market conditions to properly evaluate revenue opportunities
  • Assists in the preparation of marketing materials and proposals
  • Participates, as needed, in Business Development calls
  • Maintains potential and current client, architect, and sub-relationships
Staff Management and Development:
  • Oversees the hiring, job assignment, training, and development of Project Managers, Superintendents, and Project Engineers.
  • Provide challenges, goals, and vision for the Operations and Estimating Groups.
  • Prepares and presents performance reviews for direct reports and others as appropriate.
Additional Activities/ Responsibilities/ Duties:
  • Provides leadership for conflict resolution to facilitate effectiveness and improved working relationships
  • Keeps the Sr Vice President informed of critical issues that can potentially affect KDC's financial exposure unfavorably.
  • Signs monthly draws (if assigned by the Sr Vice President)
  • Participates in special projects (i.e., operations manual, the rollout of new technology platforms)
  • Develops strategies for the management of new projects and clients
  • Travel required.
Serves as a responsible leader, through the direction and guidance of the team, to ensure all safety requirements for all jobs are upheld for the protection of co-workers, sub-contractors, the public, and the client by supporting all Company safety efforts. Performs other duties as assigned.Education, Experience, and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related area
  • 10-15 years of experience in commercial construction, five years in a management position
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience with ground-up projects
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the Construction Industry
  • Strong relationships in the market
  • Ability to take and pass state license examinations
  • Knowledge of codes and standard practices
  • Excellent problem solver
  • An ability to inspire and motivate others toward a collective goal
  • Ability to effectively schedule projects
  • Computer skills using MS Office and Microsoft Project
