The VP, OT Platform and Services role is business-facing, being responsible for stakeholder engagement across all corporate  functions,  business units, and operational sites up to the  CTO and COO and Executive Committee (ExCO) Levels.

Scale: Responsible for a multi-million dollar budget per year, directly leading a team of 10+ employees, along with many specialized contractors and key vendor service contracts. Additionally, the role is responsible for directing major Digital Technology projects in the OT space, managing project portfolios. True global reach with interactions covering all levels up to ExCo. This role collaborates very closely with DT team members in Sites and Regions, as well as colleagues outside of DT.

The role holder will be accountable to ensure that DT provides reliable and resilient Operational Technology applications and platforms, with mature global services, including help desk support, sustainment, material change projects and strategic positioning. Crucially, this includes proactively identifying, managing, and mitigating OT risks, while driving value creation across operations. The role holder to develop and maintain relationships with all internal stakeholders to ensure business leaders in specific functions (e.g. Exploration, Operations, Sustainability, Resources, Safety, Technical Services etc.) have single points of contact for their information technology and digital technology requirements. This includes roadmaps, project definition, sustainability, and support for Operational  Technology deployment and sustainment within the business, to support the organisation to make better decisions, supported with the right process, and with the right data, and at the right time.

Work Accountabilities:

  • Develop appropriate strategy for the group, in conjunction with the VP, Strategy and Governance and the SVP, DT
  • Maintain deep domain expertise in emerging mining and OT vendor capabilities to influence corporate strategy and drive innovation across site operations.
  • Work with peers to review business objectives, propose and recommend solutions and optimal delivery mechanisms
  • Cultivate strong and productive relationships with business groups and appropriate senior leaders in order to provide a single point of contact and accountability for the services provided, including sustainment, material change and strategic positioning. Act as the primary interface for functional leaders across Exploration, Operations, Safety, Sustainability, and Technical Services to define requirements, roadmaps, and service delivery.
  • Deliver new platforms and applications to the company, ensuring full earned value, based on expectations and plans
  • Ensure excellent customer service provided by the group, in a transparent and accountable manner
  • Coordinate the collaborative development and deployment of strategy for relevant service lines - those that typically relate to mining industry specific platforms and applications (e.g. Exploration, Operations, Sustainability, Resources, Safety, Technical Services etc)
  • Own the analytic and content technology journeys for the above business functions, including providing services to business units around identifying and refining opportunities for planning and delivery
  • Support the creation and stewardship to the annual capital plan for the OT Platforms and Services group
  • Collaborate with DT peers on  the selection, implementation, and upgrade of the business's platforms, ensuring appropriate governance via the DT Opportunity Process
  • Analyse complex requirements and make recommendations to the SVP Digital Technology and the business for technical solutions, ensuring that these solutions are aligned with the overall business vision, mission, and direction.
  • Proactively manage OT cybersecurity, access control, and operational risks. Ensure strict adherence to compliance mandates, including SOX controls and segregation of duties.
  • Effective management of commercial contracts related to the area, in conjunction with the Strategy and Governance group and Supply Chain
  • Responsible for medium to long term operational and capital planning, compliance and program development
  • Oversee global sustainment services, for Operational Technology platforms.
    • Effective management of Incidents/Requests/Changes/Problems/Config/Capacity etc.
    • Effective management of Requests, Oppurtinities, Projects and Work Packages related to area
    • Ensure alignment between stakeholders

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Mine Engineering or related technical fields in mining, or Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related fields
  • Project Management and/or Technology Architecture qualifications a significant strength
  • 15+ years of experience in complex global digital technology environments (IT or OT)
  • 15+ years of engaging stakeholders, specifying and delivering new digital platforms
  • 10+ years of leadership experience; ensuring fiscal discipline, showing business acumen, a continuous improvement mindset, effectively building and leading teams and delivering change  
  • 10+ years with a Senior Miner, with demonstrable leadership experience
  • Deep knowledge of mining's sampling, modelling, mining and processing processes, including typical digital technologies used, such as Drill Databases, Geological Modelling, Block Modelling, FMS, SCADA, Historians, Cameras, Mine Planning, Safety Management
  • Deep understanding of Information Technology typically seen at mine sites such as mining networks, plan networks, site wifi, leaky feeder, LTE, site data centers, IT/OT network segmentation, fiber, radio
  • Ability to articulate the criticality and importance to mine sites and technical functions of the above technologies, their availability and their safe evolution
