Job description

About Lumentum

We are illuminating the networks of tomorrow with breakthrough optical and photonic technologies that power innovation across AI, cloud, telecommunications, industrial, and sensing applications. Our portfolio includes ultra‑high‑speed transceivers (800G, 1.6T) and Optical Circuit Switches that keep data moving reliably and efficiently at massive scale. Headquartered in San Jose, California, we operate worldwide through a network of R&D, manufacturing, and sales locations, including advanced production facilities in Thailand, Taiwan, and the United States.

Position Summary

The Vice President of Material and Capacity Planning holds ultimate accountability for the architectural design, global coordination, and optimisation of Lumentum’s end‑to‑end material flows and long‑range capacity strategies. This executive translates volatile cloud/hyperscaler market forecasts into actionable global supply strategies that support corporate revenue and margin targets. The role focuses on balancing front‑end wafer fabrication (InP/VCSEL) and back‑end module factory resources on a multi‑continent scale.

Scope
  • Multi‑Tier Supply Network Coordination & Material Interlocking
    • Formulate centralized scheduling models linking front‑end wafer fabrication outputs to back‑end assembly, test, and packaging schedules in regional hubs.
    • Build governance frameworks using advanced planning systems to track multi‑million‑dollar pools of critical materials across manufacturing nodes.
    • Establish safety‑stock parameters and inventory buffers to prevent component line‑downs while avoiding excess & obsolete margin erosion.
    • Lead global alignment for New Product Introduction material pipelines, ensuring phased ramp‑ups of next‑generation transceivers without stranded liabilities.
  • Macro‑Capacity Balancing & Global Asset Optimization
    • Audit macro‑capacity matrices of all internal cleanrooms, assembly floors, and automated test fixtures worldwide.
    • Orchestrate global product routing allocations to optimise equipment effectiveness, absorb regional capacity shocks, and manage labor scaling.
    • Synthesise factory and fab load projections into data‑backed recommendations for capital expenditure planning.
    • Coordinate with third‑party foundries and OSAT partners to treat external capacity as a flexible extension of the global footprint.
Core Responsibilities
  • Enterprise S&OP & Integrated Business Planning (IBP) Leadership
    • Chair monthly executive SIOP supply review cycle, ensuring data alignment across product units, sales, finance, and operations.
    • Establish mechanisms to ingest volatile cloud/hyperscaler forecasts and map them against long‑term operational limits.
    • Present data‑backed “what‑if” planning options to the EVP of Business Operations regarding trade‑offs, demand surges, and capacity risks.
    • Reconcile physical capacity constraints with corporate finance budgets to protect gross margins and optimise cash flow.
  • Peers & Executive Stakeholder Collaboration
    • Partner closely with the VP of IBP to embed corporate strategy, portfolio shifts, and financial targets into the SIOP cadence.
    • Align constraints with the SVP of Procurement and Logistics to incorporate supplier capacity, lead times, and logistics realities into macro models.
    • Serve as the chief strategic partner to site SVPs of Fab Operations and Factories, integrating local cycle times, machine availabilities, and yield metrics into the macro plan.
  • Digital S&OP Infrastructure & Technology
    • Lead the technology roadmap for enterprise cloud planning systems (e.g., Kinaxis RapidResponse, o9 Solutions, SAP IBP) to streamline cross‑functional data integration.
    • Enforce data governance policies for macro‑level planning parameters, standardising yield models and BOMs within the ERP.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, or Business Administration. MBA or MS in an analytical discipline highly preferred.
  • Experience: 15+ years of progressive leadership in supply chain or operations with at least five years driving corporate S&OP/IBP transformations.
  • Global Scope Exposure: Proven track record managing complex, cross‑continental planning networks across North America and Asia.
  • Dual‑Domain Focus: Extensive experience bridging semiconductor fabrication (Fab) and module integration (Factory) in high‑tech environments.
  • Certification: Active APICS certifications such as CPIM or CSCP strongly preferred.
  • Technical & Leadership Skills: Deep governance experience with leading APS platforms and enterprise software (SAP S/4HANA Supply Chain, Oracle Cloud SCM). Exceptional presentation, persuasion, and consensus‑building skills across matrixed executive groups.
Pay Range

E100-USA-1: $0.00 – $0.00. Final base salary will depend on location, qualifications, experience, and other factors.
