Job description

Location:NYC (Hybrid – at least 3 days onsite/week).

We are seeking a VP-level Senior Java Developer / Technical Lead to join a Market Data and Trading Technology team within a leading financial institution. This hands-on role combines Java development, technical leadership, and architecture, working closely with Trading, Quantitative, Risk, and Technology teams to deliver scalable market data and trading solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop enterprise-grade, server-side Java applications supporting market data and trading platforms.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance across architecture, solution design, development, and implementation.
  • Mentor developers through code reviews, design discussions, and engineering best practices.
  • Partner with traders, quantitative analysts, product teams, and other technology stakeholders.
  • Develop system architecture, technical designs, and implementation concepts.
  • Provide development estimates and support delivery planning.
  • Drive software engineering standards across the SDLC, including testing, release readiness, production stability, and operational resilience.
  • Maintain high code quality through automated testing, code coverage, static/dynamic analysis, security scans, and CI/CD controls.
  • Participate across the full software delivery lifecycle, from requirements and architecture through deployment and production support.
  • Support and continuously improve highly available, business-critical trading applications.
Qualifications

Required Skills

  • 10–15 years of software development experience in Core Java skills, including multi-threading, concurrency, object-oriented design patterns, and asynchronous/event-driven programming
  • Designed, built, and maintained high-performance, real-time data pipelines and pricing engines for fixed-income electronic trading
  • Strong experience with Spring Boot and enterprise application development.
  • Experience with Apache Flink for batch and stream processing.
  • Experience building and integrating APIs, including REST, GraphQL, and RPC.
  • Strong experience with messaging and streaming platforms, including Apache Kafka, JMS/ActiveMQ, and event-driven architectures.
  • Experience building, deploying, and maintaining containerized applications using Docker, Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, or similar technologies.
  • Strong experience with AWS cloud-native services and architectures, including ECS, EKS, S3, EC2, and Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as CloudFormation or Terraform.
  • Strong database and data architecture experience, including PostgreSQL, Oracle, MS SQL Server, and/or Sybase.
  • Experience with Apache Camel, enterprise authentication frameworks, application integration, and enterprise application design.
  • Experience with enterprise monitoring, application state management, production observability, and production support.
  • Experience integrating applications with Bloomberg and/or Murex.
  • Experience with Ansible and related deployment/automation technologies.
  • Proven experience leading technical delivery, mentoring developers, and communicating effectively with business and technology stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, Quantitative Finance, or a related field.
