Position Description
COMPANY
Precision is a forward-thinking firm specializing in preconstruction consulting, construction management, and general construction services. We serve a wide range of clients - from aerospace innovators to private equity firms, real estate developers, architects, engineers, and government agencies. Whether our clients need help with projects straight out of science fiction (i.e. Hyperloop technology) or simply want to mitigate risk in their commercial real estate portfolios, we empower these groups to build better projects and advance the construction industry.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Vice President of Operations (VPO) owns execution across all projects and field operations at Precision Construction Services (PCS) and reports directly to the President. This role enables the President to focus on strategy, growth, leadership, and external relationships and is critical to transitioning Precision from a founder-led organization to a scalable, management-led company.
The VPO serves as the senior operational leader responsible for project delivery, operational performance, forecasting discipline, organizational execution, leadership development, and systems consistency across the business.
The VPO is accountable for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, on budget, and at or above target margin. This role will ensure the systems, structure, and leadership bench are maintained to support sustainable long-term growth.
This role is not intended to function as a Senior Project Manager or frontline firefighter. Instead, the VPO serves as the operational leader of execution across the company, resolving issues at the appropriate level, driving accountability across teams, and creating organizational consistency and scalability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational Leadership & Execution
  • Own execution across all projects and field operations.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, profitably, and in alignment with company standards.
  • Protect and enhance project margins across the organization.
  • Lead operational performance across a portfolio of concurrent projects.
  • Enforce schedule discipline across all projects and intervene early when projects trend off-plan.
  • Monitor schedules, budgets, change orders, forecasting, and cash flow performance.
  • Ensure operational alignment between field operations, project management, preconstruction, and finance.
  • Ensure strong Preconstruction ? Operations handoff processes.
  • Own the full project lifecycle from preconstruction handoff through punch list and project closeout.
  • Identify operational risks early and implement corrective actions proactively.
  • Ensure work complies with contract documents, building codes, OSHA requirements, and - for federal projects - FAR/DFARS and agency-specific requirements.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities without sacrificing quality, safety, or client experience.

Financial Performance & Forecasting
  • Drive operational accountability tied to financial performance and project outcomes.
  • Protect company profitability through disciplined operational management and execution consistency.
  • Lead weekly and monthly WIP and forecasting processes.
  • Improve forecasting accuracy and operational visibility across the business.
  • Partner with estimating and finance leadership on forecasting, WIP schedules, margin analysis, and operational planning.
  • Ensure project teams maintain strong financial awareness and accountability.
  • Support operational decision-making through proactive reporting, performance tracking, and trend analysis.

Leadership & Culture
  • Set clear expectations and hold teams accountable to performance and behavioral standards.
  • Lead and develop Project Managers, Superintendents, and field teams.
  • Develop the next layer of operational leadership across the organization (PMs ? PXs).
  • Upgrade overall team capability and talent quality over time.
  • Supervise project managers, superintendents, and operational staff across the business.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and leadership development conversations.
  • Recruit, onboard, and develop operational talent aligned with future company growth.
  • Strategically build bench strength and leadership capability across departments.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Model and reinforce Precision's Core Values in daily operations and leadership behavior.

  • Build scalable systems and structure capable of supporting long-term company growth.
  • Own the operational execution framework across the business.
  • Review, evaluate and ensure compliance with operational workflows, systems, and reporting structures.

  • Lead operational planning and performance tracking processes.
  • Identify operational gaps, inefficiencies, and execution risks proactively.
  • Implement corrective action plans and operational improvements as necessary.

Resource Planning & Organizational Execution
  • Ensure issues are resolved at the lowest appropriate organizational level.
  • Own resource planning for project execution.
  • Align staffing and operational capacity with project workload and company growth.
  • Serve as the final decision-maker for project execution matters.
  • Escalate only major strategic, financial, or enterprise-level risks to the President or Founders.
  • Drive consistency in operational execution, planning, and accountability across teams.
  • Drive consistency in reporting, planning, communication, and performance tracking.
  • Build and maintain scalable operational systems, processes, and reporting structures.

Client & Stakeholder Leadership
  • Protect and strengthen client relationships through strong operational delivery.
  • Serve as the senior operational point of contact for owners, architects, contracting officers, consultants, and key stakeholders.
  • Resolve disputes, operational conflicts, and complex project issues effectively.
  • Negotiate change orders and operational resolutions when required.
  • Contribute operational insight to strategic growth discussions and project pursuit decisions.
  • Support business development efforts through go/no-go input, technical leadership, and reference-worthy project execution.

LEADERSHIP EXPECTATIONS

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • 12 - 18+ years of proven operational leadership experience within complex commercial, federal, industrial, or large-scale construction environments.
  • Demonstrated success leading multiple concurrent projects and operational teams.
  • Strong financial and margin awareness with operational accountability experience.
  • Experience managing forecasting, WIP processes, schedules, staffing, and operational execution.
  • Proven ability to lead Project Managers, Superintendents, and field teams effectively.
  • Strong understanding of construction operations, scheduling, project delivery, and risk management.
  • Experience developing operational systems, processes, and organizational structure.
  • Strong leadership credibility across both field and executive leadership environments.
