Job description

Directs nursing practices within the organization, analyzes and provides recommendations on the efficiency of services provided by assigned departments, and assists in the creation and development of quality health care programs that improve health care service quality. The Vice President of Patient Care monitors divisional staffing requirements, promotes effective departmental relationships and communications, assists in implementing organization-wide programs, policies, and procedures, and monitors the application of policies and procedures in an effort toward improving hospital efficiency. It is the responsibility of the incumbent(s) of this position to incorporate the Mission values and philosophy of the organization into all aspects of job duties.

Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital serves as the main campus and central hub for Our Lady of the Lake Children's Health state-wide network of pediatric healthcare. The hospital is home to an expanded St. Jude Affiliate Clinic and the only pediatric emergency room in Louisiana staffed 24/7 by physicians certified in pediatric emergency medicine. It's also home to one of only two dedicated pediatric trauma programs in Louisiana.

1.ย ย ย Leadership and Strategic Operations
a.ย ย ย As delegated by the Board of Directors, develops policies and procedures that define and describe the scope of services offered by Our Lady of the Lake RMC. Submits the policies and procedures to the Professional Affairs Committee for approval on an annual basis.
b.ย ย ย Directs the practice of nursing within the organization by evaluating nursing practices, health care trends, hospital performance, and community standards of care in order to promote the provision of high standards of quality patient care and technologically advanced health care services.
c.ย ย ย Monitors divisional staffing requirements and reports identified problems in an effort to ensure that employees needs are met with understanding and respect. Initiates and defines standards for the evaluation of personnel in all reporting departments and monitors personnel evaluation standards in order to ensure efficient personnel resource utilization that demonstrates understanding and respect for employee needs.
d.ย ย ย Develops and recommends policies and procedures relevant to the assigned division that are consistent with the mission and the operating goals and objectives of the hospital. Assists in the development and implementation of organization-wide programs, policies, and procedures that further the attainment of hospital objectives. Monitors the utilization and application of policies and procedures in order to ensure that high quality health care services are provided to the community.
e.ย ย ย Prepares and reviews records and reports in an effort to ensure the efficient and prudent management of health careservices provided by the division and reporting departments. Analyzes market trends, identifies new service opportunities, assesses competition, and evaluates national and community standards of care. Reports on divisional and departmental status and provides evaluations, recommendations, and conclusions to the Chief Operating Officer in an effort to promote decision quality, foster effective communication within the hospital, and inform administration of divisional needs and goals.
f.ย ย ย Directs the development of operating, capital equipment, and personnel budgets for departments within assigned division and ensures consistency with organizational goals and objectives. Monitors performance of assigned departments, analyzes budget variances, and ensures responsive action.ย ย

2.ย ย ย Collaboration and Partnership
a.ย ย ย Promotes and maintains harmonious and effective relationships and communications within the department and between the department and other areas.
b.ย ย ย Serves as a member of hospital administration by participating in the development and implementation of plans, policies, and programs, and the formation of corporate goals, objectives, and strategies. Assists in the creation and development of programs and services that are based on organizational goals, objectives and community health care needs.
c.ย ย ย Resolves divisional problems related to personnel, equipment, and system issues in an effort to improve divisional efficiency and ensure the cost-conscious utilization of all resources. Fosters effective communication between reporting department heads and monitors the performance of all reporting departments.ย ย ย

3.ย ย ย Quality and Performance Improvement
a.ย ย ย Analyzes, evaluates, and provides recommendations on the quality and efficiency of services provided by assigned departments.
b.ย ย ย Assists in the creation and development of quality health care programs and services that reflect a consideration of hospital-wide goals and objectives and community health care needs. Directs and recommends new programs and revisions that enhance and improve upon the quality and efficiency of existent programs, and aids in researching and identifying opportunities for new service areas.ย ย
