INVEST ATLANTA SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS

Invest Atlanta serves as the City of Atlanta’s economic development agency, advancing the city’s global competitiveness by growing a strong economy and building vibrant neighborhoods. Invest Atlanta is seeking a dynamic and strategic Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications with a minimum of ten years of progressive experience to lead and oversee the organization’s integrated communications strategies and initiatives. This executive leader will bring deep experience navigating complex, multi-stakeholder environments and managing communications across multiple brands or business lines simultaneously. Reporting directly to the President and CEO, the Senior Vice President will develop, lead, and execute a comprehensive annual marketing and communications plan that positions Invest Atlanta favorably with diverse internal and external audiences at the local, national, and global levels. The successful candidate will be a strong communicator who can tailor messaging to diverse audiences, including government officials, business leaders, community stakeholders, media, and residents, and will be well-versed in innovative, emerging digital and social media strategies, analytics-driven communications, and marketing engagement platforms.

Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Integrated Communications

• Set and guide enterprise-wide strategy for all communications, public relations, branding, and digital engagement to consistently articulate Invest Atlanta’s mission, vision, and impact.

• Lead communications across a complex organizational structure, ensuring alignment across multiple programs, initiatives, and branded efforts.

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with print, broadcast, and digital media outlets. Multi-Brand & Cross-Functional Communications

• Oversee communications strategies that support multiple initiatives, programs, and brands simultaneously, ensuring consistency while adapting messaging appropriately.

• Maintain deep knowledge of all departments to integrate and communicate priorities effectively.

• Develop and execute a comprehensive annual Marketing and Communications plan with clear objectives, KPIs, and division-specific strategies. Audience-Centered Messaging & Content Development

• Craft compelling messaging and storytelling tailored to diverse audiences, including policymakers, investors, community partners, and the public.

• Develop high-quality content across platforms, including press releases, speeches, digital campaigns, presentations, video, social media, and web content. Digital Strategy & Social Media Innovation

• Lead the development of innovative data-driven social media strategies, leveraging emerging trends, tools, and platforms to increase engagement and reach.

• Oversee digital communications, including website strategy, analytics, content planning, and online presence optimization. Brand Strategy & Reputation Management

• Develop and implement a cohesive brand strategy across all channels and initiatives.

• Ensure quality control and consistency across all communications materials and messaging.

• Lead crisis communications and reputation management efforts when needed. Internal & Stakeholder Communications

• Strengthen internal communications through intranet, newsletters, executive messaging, and organizational updates.

• Provide communications counsel and media training to senior leadership.

• Develop and disseminate stakeholder reports and materials. Campaigns, Collateral & Thought Leadership

• Oversee creation of high-impact campaigns, reports, presentations, newsletters, and the Annual Report.

• Identify and elevate opportunities for thought leadership, including speaking engagements and strategic events. Events & Partnerships

• Conceptualize and oversee high-profile events such as groundbreaking, ribbon cuttings, and announcements in collaboration with the city and key partners. Team & Agency Leadership

• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing marketing and communications team.

• Manage external agencies, partners, and vendors to support strategic initiatives.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Proven executive leadership experience in complex organizations with multiple brands, stakeholders, or lines of business.

• Exceptional ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences and tailor messaging accordingly.

• Expertise in emerging marketing trends and strategies, including digital transformation, social media innovation, and audience analytics.

• Strong strategic thinking with the ability to execute and manage competing priorities under tight deadlines.

• Demonstrated success leading communications efforts in support of organizational change initiatives.

• Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.

• Experience with crisis communications and reputation management.

• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across sectors.

• Knowledge of web technologies, digital tools, and emerging communication trends.

• Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite tools.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

• Experience collaborating with government entities, media, and external stakeholders.

• Strong analytical skills to translate data into actionable insights.


Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

• Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive leadership experience in marketing and/or communications • Demonstrated experience working within complex organizations and managing multiple brands or initiatives simultaneously.

• Demonstrated track record of at least 10 years of direct people management is required. • At least five (5) years in a corporate, public sector, or agency environment. •

Experience with community organizing, public affairs, and stakeholder-focused communications is strongly preferred.
